After registering Paramount+’s biggest launch figures last year (via TVLine), MobLand, whose second season wrapped production in March, will not be bringing back Tom Hardy in the future, per Puck. Hardy, who stars as Harry Da Souza opposite the likes of Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren in the Guy Ritchie ensemble drama, created by Ronan Bennett, was reportedly too problematic during the production of season 2.
Although a third season has yet to be officially greenlit, considering MobLand remains one of the streamer’s biggest shows, another installment seems highly likely. But as discussed, Hardy won’t be reprising his role as Harry in any potential follow-ups.
Mobland Moves on From Tom Hardy After Season 2 Dispute
In his Puck Newsletter, Matt Belloni alleged that the actor frequently showed up late to the production of Season 2 and would consistently give script notes and change dialogue.
The Fury Road star was also reportedly unhappy with the ensemble, and his alleged clashes with producers David Glasser and Jez Butterworth nearly prompted Butterworth to quit the show mid-production of Season 2.
The fact that the studio reportedly opted to fire the A-lister, who was paramount to Season 1’s success, speaks volumes about how difficult a shoot Season 2 might have been. Then again, given Hardy’s history, particularly his feud with Charlize Theron in George Miller‘s acclaimed Fury Road, this isn’t new territory for the actor.

Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy didn’t exactly see eye to eye during their tenure on Fury Road, which was notorious for its extremely difficult shoot in the Namibian desert.
And the extreme conditions, combined with Theron and Hardy’s contrasting natures as performers, contributed to significant tension between the duo. While the Atomic Blonde star was renowned for being extremely professional and was often the first one on set, Hardy, similar to the alleged accounts surrounding Mobland, reportedly tended to be late to productions.
Things eventually reached a boiling point between them after Hardy was reportedly three hours late to a shoot while Theron waited in the War Rig in full makeup, prompting a confrontation between the two. Reflecting on their conflict, director Miller said to The Telegraph:
I’m an optimist, so I saw their behavior as mirroring their characters, where they had to learn to co-operate in order to ensure mutual survival. There’s no excuse for it, and I think there’s a tendency in this business to use great performances as an excuse for other disruption that could be avoided.
The duo did end up burying the hatchet, with Theron acknowledging that they should have handled the pressure of shooting in the harsh Namibian desert better. Hardy also took accountability for his actions, noting that the pressure was overwhelming for both of them, adding, “What she needed was a better, perhaps more experienced partner in me.” As for the MobLand situation, it remains to be seen whether Hardy or any of his peers from the show will break their silence on the matter.
