Academy Award winner Tom Hanks opened up about the possibility of Toy Story 6. The latest installment to Pixar’s acclaimed animated franchise, Toy Story 5, is now playing in theaters worldwide. It currently holds a 93% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 232 reviews.
What did Tom Hanks say about Toy Story 6?
During a recent interview with EW, Hanks shared his thoughts on Toy Story 6, revealing that another sequel would only be possible if they managed to come up with a fresh and meaningful story. He believes that doing a new Toy Story movie would be pointless if the studio doesn’t have a new idea that would live up to the franchise’s reputation.
“If you’re gonna do another Toy Story, it better be worthwhile. It better be great. You better be examining some theme that is not just dragging it out because people like the title. I mean, it is a huge corporate business without a doubt, I’m not gonna discount that. But unless it’s good, new, fresh, there’s no reason to do it at all,” Hanks said.
Toy Story 5 was directed by Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo), who also co-wrote the screenplay with Kenna Harris, based on a story by Stanton. The movie was produced by Lindsey Collins, with Pete Docter and Jonas Rivera serving as executive producers. So far, the film has already grossed over $300 million worldwide.
The next installment will also feature the voices of Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, Joan Cusack as Jessie, Greta Lee as Lilypad, Conan O’Brien as Smarty Pants, and Tony Hale as Forky. Joining them are John Ratzenberger as Hamm, Wallace Shawn as Rex, Blake Clark as Slinky Dog, Jeff Bergman as Mr. Potato Head, Anna Vocino as Mrs. Potato Head, Annie Potts as Bo Peep, Bonnie Hunt as Dolly, Melissa Villaseñor as Karen Beverly, John Hopkins as Mr. Pricklepants, Kristen Schaal as Trixie, Ernie Hudson as Combat Carl, Keanu Reeves as Duke Caboom, Craig Robinson as Atlas, Shelby Rabara as Snappy, Scarlett Spears as Bonnie, Mykal-Michelle Harris as Blaze, and Matty Matheson as Dr. Nutcase.
