Supergirl remains one of the biggest releases of the year. Of the reactions to the movie, critics can’t stop talking about one specific character who might have a big future in the DCU.
Supergirl is set to release in theaters on June 26, 2026, and will be based on Tom King’s 2021-2022 comic book series, which Bilquis Evely illustrated. The film stars Milly Alcock, who will play the titular role of Kara Zor-El and will be written by Ana Nogueira and produced by DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran.
While reviews for Supergirl have yet to go live, early critic reactions have. In many of them, Jason Momoa’s return to the world of DC as Lobo has been praised as one of the best parts of the movie. Lobo’s future in the DCU is unknown as of now, but if early reactions are any indication, we might be in for a lot more of him soon.
Jason Momoa’s Lobo seems like a lock for more appearances in the DCU
Early reactions to Supergirl began pouring in over the past week, and among the many praises of the movie, Momoa’s name pops up. Many have called him one of the biggest standouts of the movie, alongside Milly Alcock’s portrayal of Kara Zor-El. It’s unclear how long he’s in the movie for, but several reactions call him a scene stealer.
When it comes to the future of the DCU, much is left unknown as of yet. This includes who will appear in future movies, or even what movies might be made. When it comes to Momoa, though, it seems like the star is down for more appearances as Lobo, even if he doesn’t know when they might be.
“I only know Lobo’s in this one, and so we’ll see what the future of all that holds. I would love for his own thing to be coming out,” said Momoa to ScreenRant in an interview earlier this year. This was, of course, prior to the movie coming out and any reactions appearing. Following the movie’s release, Momoa’s wish may be coming true.
For the larger DCU, Lobo could actually appear in a ton of films and make sense. He’s frequently interacted with a ton of DC’s biggest heroes, including Superman, Batman, the Green Lanterns, and even Martian Manhunter. It’s unknown if a full-fledged Lobo movie could work, but Momoa appearing sporadically throughout the DCU as the rough and chaotic character to cause chaos for heroes would be a hilarious way to keep him involved in the DCU to build him up.
