Pre-production of the Elden Ring live-action movie has started (via ixbt.games). Fans have already started debating how FromSoftware’s twisted lore of The Lands Between will translate to the big screen.
The live-action flick is one of the most anticipated projects from the Japanese Studio. They are famous for crafting complex, tragic, and visually breathtaking encounters, and the movie has to live up to those expectations.
While some characters are necessary for the plot, others simply demand to be seen for their sheer cinematic spectacle! So, here are the top 10 Elden Ring bosses, as per editorial opinion, which absolutely need to appear in the movie.
10. Godrick

As a pathetic offshoot of the Golden Lineage, Godrick is the perfect first-act villain! He is obsessed with chopping off the limbs of stronger warriors and grafting them onto his own body.
This grotesque design fits perfectly into a dark fantasy horror adaptation. Watching him graft a dead dragon’s head onto his arm mid-fight would be cinematic gold. Godrick needs to be included simply for the sheer visual madness of the character’s design.
9. Rykard
The Lord of Blasphemy would be a terrifying spectacle of pure body horror | Credit: Bandai Namco Entertainment
If the movie wants to lean into pure and visceral horror, Rykard is the ideal choice! This demigod sacrificed his own flesh to satiate a massive, immortal serpent.
Now, Rykard reigns over a gruesome arena consisting of a literal lake of fire and writhing bodies. The visual of a giant snake pulling a fleshy sword out of its own mouth is tailor-made for an A24 blockbuster.
8. Rennala
The Queen of the Full Moon offers a hauntingly surreal and atmospheric visual experience | Credit: Bandai Namco Entertainment
A24 is known for its surreal and atmospheric filmmaking style. This makes Rennala an absolute necessity! Both her phases have the potential to translate awesomely well on the big screen.
Rennala’s first phase of a grand library surrounded by crawling scholars is unsettling and creepy. However, it’s her second phase where the entire arena transforms into a moonlit lake. This haunting segment would be one of the most visually breathtaking sequences in the entire film.
7. Morgott
The tragic and self-loathing defender of a kingdom that completely rejected him | Credit: Bandai Namco Entertainment
Born with the horns of a cursed Omen and shunned by the Golden Order, Morgott remains its most devout defender. He ironically serves as the Order’s most dedicated champion, protecting the very system that rejected him!
The self-loathing, tragic son of Marika stayed behind to guard Erdtree. Especially all the other demigods abandoned it. Morgott would make a fantastic central character in the movie adaptation.
6. Godfrey
Watching the first Elden Lord fight bare-handed would be a blood-pumping cinematic moment | Credit: Bandai Namco Entertainment
Godfrey is the very first Elden Lord and the father of the Golden Lineage. He is a massively important historical figure in the lore!
He discards his restraints to fight bare-handed, transitioning into a display of pure, brutal strength. Witnessing this towering warrior tear the spectral beast Serosh from his back would create an unforgettable cinematic climax.
5. Maliketh
The terrifying shadow beast trusted to guard the Rune of Death itself | Credit: Bandai Namco Entertainment
Maliketh serves as Queen Marika’s loyal shadow. He is tasked with guarding the Rune of Death. His tragic loyalty and lethal nature would make for an incredibly high-stakes cinematic battle.
Maliketh’s mid-fight transformation from the beast clergyman Gurranq to his true form is already legendary. The scene of him shedding his robes to reveal an agile form is bound to leave theatre audiences speechless.
4. Messmer
A deeply complex villain whose tragic crusade is tailor-made for the big screen | Credit: Bandai Namco Entertainment
Messmer is the exact type of tragic, self-loathing villain who thrives on the big screen. Sent to the Realm of Shadow by Marika to lead a brutal crusade, he was ultimately betrayed by his own mother.
Messmer now remains abandoned in his dark fortress, left to rot in the wake of his service. His fiery aesthetic, serpentine curses, and deeply complex morality would translate perfectly to film.
3. Radahn
The legendary Radahn Festival would make for a massive blockbuster battle sequence | Credit: Bandai Namco Entertainment
The noble warrior Radahn mastered gravity magic for the sole purpose of not crushing his beloved, scrawny horse from his massive weight. This kind-hearted warrior was infected with Scarlet Rot by Malenia.
After which, he was reduced to a mindless and cannibalistic zombie wandering the Caelid wastes. The movie should adapt the legendary Radahn Festival raid to feature that massive and chaotic action set piece.
2. Marika / Radagon
The ultimate God-like duality at the heart of The Lands Between | Credit: Bandai Namco Entertainment
The ultimate mystery of Elden Ring lies in the dichotomy between Marika and Radagon. The revelation that Queen Marika and her champion consort Radagon are actually two halves of the exact same being!
Their duality, immense power, and shattered psyche are directly responsible for the world’s broken state. Exploring their hybrid form and internal conflict makes them the perfect overarching antagonists for the A24 movie.
1. Malenia
The undisputed face of Elden Ring and its most lethal warrior | Credit: Bandai Namco Entertainment
Malenia is the most infamous boss in FromSoftware history! Hence, she has become the undeniable face of Elden Ring, which should take precedence in the movie as well.
She is cursed from birth by an Outer God to rot from the inside out. Yet, Malenia remains a fiercely loyal and terrifyingly lethal warrior. The moment she unleashes the massive Scarlet Aeonia flower could become one of the movie’s most iconic scenes!

Is an Elden Ring movie officially happening?
Yes. It has been officially confirmed that an Elden Ring live-action adaptation is in development, produced by A24, with visionary filmmaker Alex Garland set to direct the movie.
Will the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC be included in the movie?
Given the importance of characters like Messmer and the lore revelations from the Realm of Shadow. A comprehensive cinematic adaptation would likely draw heavily on the expansion’s rich and overarching narrative.
Why are Radagon and Marika ranked together?
In the lore of Elden Ring, Radagon and Queen Marika are two halves of the exact same being. Their dual nature is essential to the game’s final encounter, making them functionally the same entity.
Which boss would be the hardest to adapt to the big screen?
Massive, non-humanoid entities like Rykard or cosmic beings would require massive CGI budgets and distinct artistic direction from Garland to accurately capture their freakish designs without looking out of place.
How would the movie adapt the Starscourge Radahn fight?
Unlike traditional one-on-one duels, the Radahn Festival is structured as a massive raid in which numerous warriors team up to face the maddened general. A cinematic adaptation could treat this encounter as a massive, large-scale siege, offering a completely different action dynamic from the rest of the film.
Do you think we missed any of the Elden Ring bosses that should definitely appear in the movie? Or you disagree with one of our inclusions? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
