An Avengers: Doomsday star reveals a moment that left him and a co-star “pinching ourselves.” Directed by the Russo brothers, the upcoming film marks Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU as the villain Doctor Doom. The star’s comments come after witnessing a moment of mythical magnitude on set.

What did David Harbour say about Avengers: Doomsday?

Speaking to Variety, David Harbour, who plays Red Guardian in the MCU, revealed that he and Florence Pugh were left in disbelief after seeing something while shooting together. Excerpts from the piece read, “Harbour and Florence Pugh, shooting together, witnessed a mythical Marvel sequence — ‘the moment when said character does said thing that you’ve seen before,’ he says. (Harbour will not divulge, but I’m guessing Thor will catch his hammer in this film.) ‘We were just pinching ourselves that we get a front-row seat to this process.’”

That said, Avengers: Doomsday is deep in post-production as of this story. It’s still undergoing additional photography that the makers are calling “healthy.” This update comes despite principal photography wrapping in September 2025. The reshoots are scheduled to go on throughout early to mid-2026 at Pinewood Studios in London.

Directors Joe and Anthony Russo stated that they would continue working on the film until November 2026 to finalize the cut before its release the following month. They have also described the film as the MCU’s “Phase Zero.” They aim to make the story accessible as a fresh starting point while serving as the first half of a finale leading into Avengers: Secret Wars.

While an official synopsis isn’t out yet, Avengers: Doomsday centers on multiversal incursions threatening reality, with Doctor Doom being the primary antagonist.

Avengers: Doomsday is slated to release in theaters on December 18, 2026.
