Ryan Reynolds is proud of Blake Lively’s successes, sure, but he also appears to be particularly proud of one of her flops with Warner Bros. for a pretty adorable reason: Green Lantern. And yes, the same movie in which the actor played the lead role of the titular DC superhero, and which continues to be regarded among his more disappointing pieces.
As he shared during a recent appearance at The Wall Street Journal’s CMO Council Summit, the reason behind his support of the same is their son Olin’s interest in the movie. Reynolds said about the 2011 flick that notoriously underperformed at the box office,
You laugh, but my son, it’s his favorite movie, and he watches it every f—ing day. Do you understand the work I’ve had to do to get to the place where I can just pass by that screen and not go, ‘Well, we could have [done that differently]?’
For those unversed, the said DC film was nothing short of a critically panned box office bomb, rated 25% on the Tomatometer and 45% on the Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes, and 5.5 stars out of 10 on IMDb, indicating mixed or generally unfavorable reviews.
On a budget of $200 million, Green Lantern barely made $219.5 million at the box offices worldwide, going down as one of both Lively and Reynolds’ least profitable projects of all time (though the two did spark romance on the sets of that very movie, so it might not entirely have been an unprofitable experience for them!).

Green Lantern Helps Ryan Reynolds Reflect on His Growth
While that does give him opportunities to cringe at his past works, Ryan Reynolds also shared that this particular movie also gives him chances to reflect on just how much he has grown as an actor, professionally. He noted,
That was a time in my life when I was, ‘Yes, sir. No, sir. How high can I jump, sir?’
To say the least, that also allows the Proposal actor to relish the chance to teach his kids about life through what he calls his “failures.” He continued to say,
My kids, all they see is a winner. When I go outside, I get pats in the back and it’s a selfie parade, and I oblige everyone pretty much. My kids only see that. So, I’ve learned lately to make sure [I am] talking about the failures and how that is literally the base and ingredient for everything else.
For those unversed, besides Olin, he is also father to three daughters, whom he shares with Lively: James, 10, Inez, 9, and Betty, 6.
Ryan Reynolds Also Feels He Is in “Direct competition” With Olin

While his thoughts on Green Lantern might have changed due to his son’s interest in the movie, Ryan Reynolds previously also talked about the lessons that he has learned and the superhero strength it takes to parent a son. During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers in October, he candidly said,
Three girls—just so easy. And then the boy, who’s gotta break everything. I’m, like, in direct competition with this young man.
In fact, he even went as far as to joke that he “would never” have had a fourth child with his wife had they welcomed three boys first instead of three girls. He quipped,
There’s no way. I would give myself a punching vasectomy. There’s no way I would allow that to happen.
It’s a different matter that Reynold’s joke didn’t fare all too well among his fans. Then again, it’s nothing new for Reynolds, who goes pretty unhinged with his jokes pretty much all the time.
