Spread the love

Mark Wahlberg has delivered quite a few epics over the years, each good for a new occasion, and one of them is just pretty much perfect to put on Christmas Eve: Daddy’s Home. A box-office blockbuster starring Wahlberg alongside Will Ferrell in the lead, this one didn’t earn the finest reviews from critics but still managed to earn a soft spot among many fans.

The plotline of this film revolved around the life of Brad Taggart (played by Ferrell), who is a radio executive attempting to be a good father to his wife’s (played by Linda Cardellini) children, aka his stepchildren. But his problems increase multifold when the kids’ biological father, Dusty Mayron (played by Wahlberg), suddenly re-enters their lives.

Basically a buddy comedy film, it was directed by Sean Anders and written by Anders, Brian Burns, and John Morris, and didn’t hesitate to successfully earn $242.7 million at the box offices worldwide. And as fun a movie as that was, here are five reasons why you should definitely put it on for Christmas evening, without overthinking. Dig in!

1. Daddy’s Home Put Relatable Family Chaos on Full Display

With the story encompassing the lives of stepdads Dusty (Wahlberg) and Brad (Ferrell), Daddy’s Home focused on blending families (stepdads vs. bio-dads) while also offering relatable chaos for grown-ups. If anything, it captures the stress, humor, and love within blended families during the holidays, making it super relatable.

Through their family dynamic, the movie taps into the genuine difficulties of integrating a new parental figure into an existing family structure. For one, Brad’s initial struggles to discipline the children or earn their respect are a central, and relatable, pain point that many stepparents face. This leads to chaotic, relatable fun – just perfect for holiday viewing.

The film has a warm, funny vibe perfect for cozy evenings, and delivers big laughs for everyone with its focus on family dynamics and the humorous clash between the biological dad and the stepdad over the kids. To say the least, it’s ideal for a festive, low-stress movie night after gift chaos.

2. The Film’s Slapstick and Banter Entertain Both Kids and Adults

Besides incorporating relatable themes, the movie also perfectly captured the awkwardness and humor of blending families. Then there’s also Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg’s outstanding performance as Brad and Dusty, respectively, which brought slapstick and witty banter, perfect for entertaining both kids and adults.

The physical comedy and sharp dialogue between Wahlberg and Ferrell appeal to both kids and grown-ups. Plus, both Ferrell and Wahlberg also bring big-name appeal, with the former’s meek stepdad character and the latter’s cool biological dad character. So, if you’re looking for a laugh-out-loud, heartwarming, and festive movie night, Daddy’s Home is the film to go for!

3. What’s Christmas Without Some Goofy Holiday Fun?

Adding to the film’s exploration of complex family dynamics with two dads – one being the biological one and the other a stepdad – Will Ferrell’s goofy charm competing against the latter’s tough-guy cool persona further adds stars to the movie. If anything, it’s a genuinely funny movie, great for a relaxed family night in.

This flick has a lot of humor, and the jokes are pretty spot on as well. Even through the serious elements, the film didn’t hesitate to add some goofy holiday fun to the movie, making it just the stress buster – something of a fun, silly escape from real-life holiday pressures, offering pure entertainment and big laughs for a relaxed evening.

Through the sharp difference between the two leading dad characters, the film offered a primary source of amusement and laughs.

4. Daddy’s Home Could Even Become Your Favorite Christmas Movie

Apart from the unparalleled union and performance of all the stars in Daddy’s Home, the film also focused on the wholesome family elements, keeping it lighthearted and heartwarming. Despite the conflict between the families, it’s ultimately about family acceptance, creating that sweet, heartwarming feeling for Christmas Eve or Day.

If anything, the message of the movie is acceptance, since both the biological father and stepdad are simply trying to get acceptance from the kids. While Brad wants to be accepted by his stepkids so they can be one happy family, Dusty wants to be accepted again after the divorce and have a family, even though he can be irresponsible.

As Brad and Dusty slowly begin to start a “Dad Off”, trying to beat one another to show the kids who the cooler dad is, the film really establishes the element of heartwarming family moments with all the wholesome moments it offers amidst the comedy. To say the least, this one is a simple and enjoyable film that is great for passing the time with a few decent laughs.

The core premise of blended families and the struggle for acceptance is very relatable, especially during holidays, which this movie essentially captured. Beneath the rivalry, there’s a sweet message about finding your place in a family in this film, and that’s all the more reason to stream it with your family when Christmas finally comes around.

5. Mark Wahlberg’s Daddy’s Home Is Christmas Themed

Last but barely least, though this one isn’t really a traditional Christmas movie, the entire plot of the film revolves around Christmas. This makes it instantly festive and relevant for a holiday watch!

The entire premise is set around Christmas, with the biological father, Dusty, showing up unexpectedly during the season. Plus, as mentioned before, the core conflict of this movie is about family and belonging during a key holiday period, as the stepdad tries to win over the kids.

That said, if you’re really looking for a comedy film that perfectly fits the cheesy holiday movie vibe, Daddy’s Home just might be a good choice for Christmas viewing. What do you think? Will you be giving it a watch? Or is this more of a pass-movie for you, not your vibe? Whatever your thoughts and opinions may be, make sure to let us know in the comments below!
