Director James Gunn recently revealed the project that will drop after Man of Tomorrow. Divulging it to be Creature Commandos, the DC Co-CEO also teased the release date for Season 2 of the animated series. Meanwhile, Man of Tomorrow will be out in theatres in 2027.
Creature Commandos Season 2 won’t release until after Man of Tomorrow
The veteran filmmaker recently announced that Season 2 of the DCU animated series will be released after his Superman sequel hits theaters.
On Threads, a fan asked James Gunn, “@jamesgunn Can we get some confirmation on what the next DCU project will be after Man of Tomorrow?”
To this, Gunn replied, “Well, Creature Commandos Season 2 won’t be long after. And more stuff as well shortly thereafter.” The update is as interesting as Season 1 of the animated series premiered in 2024. It was the first project in the rebooted DC universe.
Moreover, DC fans seemed startled as with this, two Superman movies will have dropped between Creature Commandos Season 1 and 2.
In January 2026, Gunn also shared an update on Creature Commandos Season 2. He said it will be released “when we’re done animating the new season, which is in production now.”
Another fan at that time asked the Guardians of the Galaxy director, “Does the new season take place before or after Peacemaker Season 2?” In response, Gunn said that Season 2’s timeline will take place after Peacemaker Season 2.
Furthermore, while speaking to Rotten Tomatoes in an earlier interview, James Gunn hinted at the characters fans will get to see in the series. He said that they’ve got a “mummy happening.” Gunn also shared his excitement about the character appearing in the series. He added, “I’m a werewolf guy, to be honest with you.” Apart from the mummy, the show is also expected to feature Nosferata, a vampire-bat humanoid.
Currently, the next DCU project is Supergirl, which will arrive in theaters on June 26.
