Marvel may not have enjoyed the same success since Avengers: Endgame, but studio president Kevin Feige may have found a solution. The veteran producer recently discussed the MCU’s new approach to films, which could return the franchise to its glory days.
Kevin Feige explains how Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars could fix Marvel’s post-Endgame issue
Following his appearance at the 2026 San Diego Comic-Con, Feige spoke with Empire Magazine about the future of the MCU after Avengers: Doomsday.
Explaining why there won’t be a single MCU movie between Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, the Marvel Studios president noted, “A lot of it is a strategy we’ve talked about for a while, of focusing on quality.”
He continued, “We always try to focus on quality, but when quantity is so much, you get spread thin. We didn’t want to be spread thin, and The Avengers is as important as it comes. And Secret Wars, in particular for Empire readers, who know the comics, is a setup in and of itself to the future, to what’s next. So really, it was landing those two movies and setting up 2028, of which we’ve revealed two of them so far, Ghost Rider and Panther III.”
Notably, the MCU has struggled to replicate its pre-Endgame success. Both critical reception and box office returns have taken a hit. Nine MCU movies broke the $1 billion barrier before 2020, including Endgame itself. Since then, only Spider-Man: No Way Home and Deadpool & Wolverine have managed the feat.
As such, Feige and his team have scaled back theatrical projects. This shift comes ahead of the MCU’s proposed reboot post-Secret Wars. The two-movie Avengers event wraps up in December 2027. After that, fans will see Ryan Gosling debut as Ghost Rider. David Jonsson will also step in as the new Black Panther in the franchise.
