In the glamorous world of Hollywood, where actors appear and move away from the spotlight at the speed of a shooting star, only a few manage to hold their position across multiple decades.
Robert De Niro, who made his breakthrough in Hollywood in the 70s, showed his class yet again with his brilliant performance in Killers of the Flower Moon. Meanwhile, his Falling in Love (1984) co-star, Meryl Streep also blessed fans with her appearance in Only Murders in the Building this year.

She plays the role of a failed actress in the Hulu series. But her acting catalog suggests anything but failure. In fact, it’s so stacked that some individuals, including Sharon Stone, have had to come up with a bizarre statement to compliment her tendency to attract so many roles.

How Sharon Stone Puzzled Meryl Streep Fans With Her Bizarre Compliment
Meryl Streep attracted and impressed the harshest critics with her exquisite performance in Michael Cimino’s The Deer Hunter (1978). This stint not only earned her her first Oscar nomination but also made Streep one of the most sought-after actresses of her generation.

Over the next decades, new competitions came and went, but Streep continued to attract directors and producers at her doorstep. Through her variety of works, the 74-year-old established herself as one of the most talented performers of all time. She has won an Oscar award three times and holds the record for the most nominations in the acting categories (21).
Despite her brilliant work across different eras, many still find it hard to explain just why Streep gets so many roles. When another brilliant actress, Sharon Stone shared her thoughts on why Sophie’s Choice star gets so much work, she found herself in a pickle because of her strange compliment. Speaking to Tatler magazine (via The Telegraph) in 2010, the Basic Instinct star said:
“Because she looks like a woman we can all relate to. I look at her and I think, ‘I’m chasing my kids, I’ve moved my parents in with me, I’m coping with food spills — that looks like me in real life. Meryl looks like an unmade bed, and that’s what I look like. To me, that looks true.”
Many took Stone’s comments as a backhanded compliment, causing her to explain the same. She insisted her statement was made with good-natured intent.

The veteran pair joined hands to work in comedy-drama The Laundromat (2019), which led to a Zoomer journalist asking Stone about ‘finally’ getting the chance to work with the three-time Oscar-winning actress. Stone replied:
“I like the way you phrase that, that I finally got to work with Meryl Streep. You didn’t say, ‘Meryl finally got to work with Sharon Stone.’ Or we finally got to work together. The business was set up that we should all envy and admire Meryl because only Meryl got to be the good one. And everyone should compete against Meryl. I think Meryl is an amazingly wonderful woman and actress. But in my opinion, quite frankly, there are other actresses equally as talented as Meryl Streep. The whole Meryl Streep iconography is part of what Hollywood does to women.”
The Casino star then went on to name a number of actresses she believed were as good as Streep and added that she plays a villain better than Streep would.
