Considering Liam Neeson’s Naked Gun breathes new life into the genre that has become obsolete in the mainstream climate in the last decade, the hype surrounding the sixth Scary Movie could signal a revival for spoof comedies.

Scary Movie 6 is far more than a studio’s attempt to bank on a legacy IP’s nostalgia, as the original creative force of the series is here to steer the wheel, which includes Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, and Keenen Ivory Wayans.

More importantly, the fan-favorite cast, featuring Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris, and Regina Hall, also returns, as seen in the 2-minute-long trailer, with all of them maintaining their quirks from the past entries.
It also features call-backs to the original classic, with Ghostface once again returning as the main villain of the story. But beyond Ghostface’s involvement, the movie is shaping up to be far more than just another Scream parody, especially within today’s horror landscape.
While spoof movies always run the risk of feeling outdated due to the fast-moving nature of the industry, it appears the Wayans have hit the nail on the head by incorporating several modern classics, including titles as recent as Weapons.
Every Horror Movie Scary Movie 6 Will Parody
Given how much horror has evolved since the last Scary Movie hit theaters, there’s a goldmine of material available for the sixth installment to offer some genuine laughs. Fortunately, it looks like the movie is fully embracing that opportunity, from spoofing the viral M3GAN dance in the opening to taking aim at recent hits like Weapons, A Quiet Place, and one of 2025’s most acclaimed hits, Sinners.
Another notable nod appears to be Terrifier 3, particularly its infamous Santa sequence, which receives the parody treatment in the trailer. And, of course, it wouldn’t be a Scary Movie without Scream in the crosshairs.
After debuting its trailer ahead of Scream 7, the franchise’s lowest-rated entry, the spoof wastes no time poking fun, whether it’s Ghostface gags or a meta quip about Neve Campbell’s absence in Scream 6. The movie also appears to be parodying Get Out, Malignant, and Heart Eyes.
Then again, the two-minute trailer merely felt like an appetiser for things to come, and one can expect to witness shots at other genre staples like Conjuring, Wednesday, or even Stranger Things. Hopefully, this won’t be the last of the Scary Movie series, as given the sheer volume of acclaimed horrors we’ve witnessed over the last decade, there’s a lot of room to keep the series going without feeling stale.
