Electronic Arts’ Battlefield and Activision’s Call of Duty are two of the biggest first-person shooter franchises that have been competing for dominance for over a decade, captivating gamers with their distinct styles and gameplay experiences. Both franchises have their own sets of pros and cons.
Electronic Arts needs to save the Battlefield franchise
Due to the rivalry, fans have witnessed the two franchises pushing the boundaries with their consistent video games. EA is now planning to move on from its 2021 game, Battlefield 2042, in order to create something called the “Battlefield Universe.” To compete with Call of Duty‘s latest titles, EA has brought in some backup: Criterion Games, known for its Need for Speed video games.

Criterion Games has joined Electronic Arts in order to create the next Battlefield game
Criterion Games will work with EA to create the “Battlefield Universe”
Electronic Arts has confirmed that Criterion Games has joined them in order to work on the Battlefield franchise. Vince Zampella, Group General Manager at EA has stated on their official website Electronic Arts,
“I’d like to share that the talented team at Criterion Games will be joining EA Entertainment. Criterion has a rich history in gaming, having worked on Battlefield, Battlefront, Burnout, and of course, Need for Speed. I’m thrilled to have a studio with such pedigree join the studios I oversee.”
Criterion Games, known for their work in Burnout and the Need for Speed franchise, are all set to work on the next Need for Speed title as well.

Zampella, who oversees games like Apex Legends, Star Wars Jedi, Battlefield, and Need for Speed, confirmed (via Electronic Arts) that Criterion Games will be working with DICE, Ripple Effect, and Ridgeline in order to create a “Battlefield universe,”
“As we’ve said before, we’re all-in on Battlefield. Today, Criterion is added to our world-class Battlefield studios dedicated to ushering in a new era for the franchise. The majority of the team will be working alongside DICE, Ripple Effect, and Ridgeline that are led by Byron Beede, GM of Battlefield. Criterion’s experience with Battlefield, our technology and building engaging experiences will have an immediate positive impact as we continue to work on Battlefield 2042, and as we continue pre-production on a connected Battlefield Universe.”
With the Call of Duty franchise gaining popularity, EA has realized that they need to focus more on their Battlefield franchise. Their last game, Battlefield 2042, had a terrible start due to bugs, so now, fans hope that they tackle these issues. So what do you prefer?
