X-Men’s Professor X Loses Shocking Telepathic Battle In X-Manhunt

Professor X is counted as the most powerful pure telepath on Earth-616. While other beings might match him in psychic might, Charles Xavier is considered the Alpha and Omega Mutant. However, Xavier meets his match in X-Men , Part 4 of the X-Manhunt event.

Written by Jed MacKay, with art by Netho Diaz and Sean Parsons, X-Men finds the team hunting their old mentor. This is a matter of great concern, as Professor X has escaped from prison and is apparently mentally unstable. To complicate matters, Xavier talked Storm into aiding his efforts. This leaves most of the X-Men fighting an Eternity-possessed Storm, with only team telepath Quentin Quire (aka Kid Omega) to stand against Xavier.

The good news is, in terms of raw power, Professor X and Kid Omega are evenly matched. As Xavier explains in a mocking psychic lecture, Omega-Level Mutants are, by definition, evenly matched. However, Xavier has far more experience than the younger telepath. This seemingly leaves Quire out-gunned and outclassed.

Kid Omega beats Professor X with finesse

While lacking in wisdom, Kid Omega has moxie to spare. His time serving under Cyclops taught him something about tactics and how to better leverage his powers against those with psychic resistance. In short, what he lacks in years, Quentin Quire makes up for in cunning and foresight. The young Mutant was shown to have planned against the day he might face another Omega-level telepath like Professor X or the Phoenix.

Surprisingly, this combination of preparation and dirty tricks leads to Professor X’s downfall. The elder telepath was used to winning fights through raw power. This blinded him to Kid Omega’s sucker-punch; an illusion of Xavier’s evil twin Cassandra Nova, who Quire claimed to be holding hostage in his own head. The bluff worked, giving Beast the opening he needed to administer a sedative and end the fight.
