A wild rumor claims that one X-Men character, who was expected to die in Avengers: Doomsday, will return in Avengers: Secret Wars. Secret Wars is set to come out next year and will feature a massive cast.
Insider James Mack has claimed that Ian McKellen’s Magneto will be back in Secret Wars. Initially, fans believed that his character would be killed in Doomsday’s events. However, now it appears that McKellen may have a very crucial role to play in Secret Wars’ story.
While the scooper has got a credible track record, fans should still take the latest rumor with a grain of salt unless Marvel shares an official update on X-Men characters in Secret Wars.

The multiverse could make another Magneto appearance possible
While it’s too early to predict anything, the current multiverse aspect of the MCU may ensure Magneto’s appearance beyond Doomsday. Similar to how Hugh Jackman returned as Wolverine in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine.
Despite getting killed way back in 2017’s Logan, the actor came back as the iconic character, but as a variant from a different reality. It seems Marvel may go this route with Ian McKellen’s Magneto as well in Doomsday to make sure he comes back for Secret Wars.
However, this is just pure speculation at the moment and should be taken with caution.
Currently, various rumors have flooded social media regarding Secret Wars even before Doomsday’s release in 2026. A recent rumor claimed that actor Noah Jupe may play Franklin Richards in next year’s sequel.
There was another rumor earlier this year, suggesting the return of Blade. The character was last seen in Deadpool & Wolverine, portrayed by Wesley Snipes, who originally played him in his own trilogy between 1998 and 2004.
To be helmed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Secret Wars will be released on December 17, 2027. While its full cast hasn’t been announced, Robert Downey Jr. is set to return as Victor von Doom.
