New set photos and a brief video from DC Studios‘ upcoming mockumentary series unveil a first look at Gorilla Grodd. Announced just three weeks ago, The People v. Gorilla Grodd began filming at a university in the U.S.
According to images shared by @AtlantaDCFans on X, the simian supervillain is shown in a practical suit, wearing casual senior wear, including a vest, shirt, and pants. In another image, the highly intelligent ape wears gray graduation robes and a cap. That’s an unexpectedly old-school approach for a character many assumed would be built entirely with CGI.

The new clip has DCU fans listening as closely as they’re watching
The new set video shared by @homeofdcu appears to include a brief soundbite of dialogue. That has led fans to analyze the voice and speculate it could be their first taste of Jimmy Tatro’s voicing the titular ape. The audio is unclear, and not much of it can be heard clearly.

Tatro previously noted on the Pardon My Take podcast that his role is “mostly voice acting,” though the studio has not confirmed how much of the final character will rely on his physical performance versus CGI.
The show’s logline, per IMDb, reads, “Follows a true-crime docuseries hosted by Jimmy Olsen investigating DC villains. Season one centers on Gorilla Grodd, who gained psychic powers after an alien encounter.”
The series stars Jimmy Tatro as Gorilla Grodd, with Skyler Gisondo returning as Jimmy Olsen from Superman. Alongside Gisondo, Beck Bennett, Mikaela Hoover, and Wendell Pierce will reprise their roles from Superman. Stranger Things actor Eduardo Franco is also on set and is believed to be playing Matter-Eater Lad.

The TV series is created by American Vandal showrunners Tony Yacenda and Dan Perrault. They serve as writers, showrunners, and executive producers.
The eight-episode series is set to premiere on HBO Max, though it does not yet have a release date.
