Although Gina Carano received her dismissal letter from Lucasfilm back in 2021, some theorists believe she might return to reprise her role as Cara Dune. Interestingly, they suggest this comeback could happen in The Mandalorian & Grogu movie. Carano is currently involved in a prolonged legal tussle with Disney. She has sued the company over alleged wrongful termination and sex discrimination. However, a recent development in the case has convinced many of the actress’s potential comeback to the franchise.

Here’s everything you need to know about the proposed return of Gina Carano in the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu film.

Will Gina Carano’s Cara Dune return in The Mandalorian & Grogu movie?

At the time of writing, Disney has shared no official word regarding Carano’s involvement. Moreover, there has been no indication that her Star Wars character will appear in 2026’s The Mandalorian & Grogu. The rumor actually stems from a recent but small win that the actress secured against the House of Mouse, which some have compared to James Gunn’s case. Marvel famously rehired Gunn for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after laying him off due to the contentious nature of some of his past tweets.

Lucasfilm cut ties with Gina Carano in 2021 following a series of controversial statements she made online. Specifically, her remarks addressed COVID-19 protocols and voting integrity in the 2020 U.S. Presidential election. She drew further criticism after she controversially drew comparisons between modern-day conservatives and the victims of the Holocaust.

Gina Carano ultimately filed a lawsuit against the Disney-owned company in February 2024. Recently, she achieved a minor victory in the case, leading many to speculate that she might return in the next Mandalorian project. As conveyed by Carano’s lawyer, Gene Schaerr, on X (formerly Twitter), a U.S. District Court for the Central District of California judge sanctioned Disney. Consequently, the company is required to submit documents outlining compensation details for actors across different Star Wars shows. As such, the entertainment giant is now liable to submit the payment records of high-profile artists such as Pedro Pascal and Rosario Dawson.

Therefore, many widely dismiss the rumors of Gina Carano’s return as Cara Dune in The Mandalorian & Grogu. They see the speculation as far-fetched, to say the least. Directed by Jon Favreau, the film is scheduled to hit theaters on May 22, 2026.
