Update: Police arrest landlord for assaulting female tenant in Akwa Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspect, Akong Henry, for assaulting a woman in Abak Local Government Area of the state. 

The victim, Rachael earlier disclosed that the suspect, who is her landlord, allegedly assaulted her for rejecting his advances. 

Spokesperson for the command, DSP Timfon John, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, April 1, said the victim sustained injuries to her head, left arm and suffered significant blood loss.

She was immediately rushed to a medical facility where she is currently receiving treatment. 

“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspect for alleged assault occasioning harm following a reported domestic dispute at Hospital Road,” the statement read.

“On 31st March 2026, at about 6:45 p.m., one Rachael, female, aged 31 years, reported at the Police Station that her landlord, identified as Akong Henry, male, allegedly assaulted her during an argument over a misunderstanding.

“Preliminary information indicates that in the course of the altercation, the suspect allegedly armed himself with a sharp object and attacked the victim.

“As a result of the assault, she sustained injuries to her head and left arm, with significant blood loss.

“Upon receipt of the report, Police operatives swiftly moved into action. 

“The victim was immediately rushed to a medical facility where she is currently receiving treatment, while the suspect was promptly arrested.

“The Command has commenced a thorough investigation into the incident.

“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command strongly condemns all forms of violence, particularly acts capable of causing grievous bodily harm. 

“Members of the public are advised to always seek peaceful means of resolving disputes and report grievances to appropriate authorities rather than resorting to violence.

“The Command remains committed to protecting lives and property and urges residents to promptly report suspicious activities or threats to the nearest police station.”
