Geraldine Viswanathan is opening up about her MCU future and potentially getting to play Songbird after Thunderbolts*.
Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts* was released in United States theaters this past May. Directed by Jake Schreier, the movie stars Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent, Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, Lewis Pullman as Sentry, David Harbour as Alexi Shostakov/Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr/Ghost, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.
What did Geraldine Viswanathan say about being the MCU’s Songbird after Thunderbolts*?
Viswanathan also stars in Thunderbolts* as Mel, who is Valentina Allegra de Fontaine’s assistant. In Marvel Comics, that character, Melissa Gold, is a supervillain-turned-superhero named Songbird, originally created by Mark Gruenwald, Ralph Macchio, and John Byrne.
While Viswanathan’s character doesn’t suit up in Thunderbolts*, she told ComingSoon in an exclusive interview that she’d love to get the chance to if that’s the direction the MCU takes.
“Absolutely, absolutely,” she said. “Suit me up. Who wouldn’t? That’s such a dream. And you know, her suit is awesome. Getting me in there would be so, so fun, and yeah, I could do a pushup now, so I’m ready.”
Marvel’s Thunderbolts* arrives on Disney+ on August 27, 2025.
The synopsis for the movie reads, “Marvel Studios assembles an unconventional team of antiheroes with Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, Ghost, Taskmaster, and John Walker. After finding themselves ensnared in a death trap set by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, these disillusioned castoffs must embark on a dangerous mission. Forced to confront the darkest corners of their pasts, will this dysfunctional group tear themselves apart, or find redemption and unite before it’s too late?”
Following his work on Thunderbolts*, it has been announced that Schreier will now direct an MCU X-Men movie. A release date for that film has not yet been set.
