Beloved Grey’s Anatomy actress is circling Daniels’ sci-fi movie
Sandra Oh is in talks to star opposite Matt Damon in the Daniels’ secret event film, according to Deadline. The filmmaking duo, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, already secured Damon for the lead role. They are now targeting Oh as his co-star in the untitled Universal project.
Specific plot details about the film remain completely under wraps for the time being. Kwan, Scheinert, and Jonathan Wang will produce through their banner Playgrounds. The company maintains an overall deal with Universal, which continues to deepen their collaboration.
Notably, Playgrounds recently produced The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist through Focus Features. That documentary opened back in March under Universal’s specialty studio label. Meanwhile, Executive VP Production Development Sara Scott and Director of Production Development Jacqueline Garell will oversee the new project. Universal has also slated the picture for a November 19, 2027 release date.
Neither Universal nor representatives for Oh could be reached for comment on the casting news. Oh remains best known for her Emmy-winning performance on the beloved medical drama Grey’s Anatomy. She most recently starred in the Lionsgate comedy Good Fortune alongside Keanu Reeves.
The actress also continues voicing a key role in the popular Prime Video series Invincible. She additionally appeared in the HBO limited series The Sympathizer in a recent television turn. UTA, Principal Entertainment, Untitled Entertainment, and attorney Jason Hendler represent her.
Oh joining the project would unite two celebrated performers under visionary filmmakers. The Daniels previously won multiple Academy Awards for Everything Everywhere All at Once. Their return to feature filmmaking with this star-studded cast signals major ambitions for Universal.
