Curious about all the Easter eggs hidden in the new Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer and how they connect to the MCU’s future? As Peter Parker struggles with a dangerous mutation and faces threats from every direction, the trailer blends legacy callbacks, deep-cut comic references, and character reveals that tease the Mutant Saga in major ways.
Here’s a breakdown of every Easter egg and Marvel connection featured in the second Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer.
All major easter eggs in Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s new trailer
Gen’s Pizza Sign
Spider-Man crashes through a pizza restaurant sign for “Gen’s Pizza.” The red writing on a white background mirrors Joe’s Pizza from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2.
Scorpion’s Homecoming Setup
Michael Mando returns as Mac Gargan nine years after his Spider-Man: Homecoming post-credits tease. Gargan received a facial scar on the Staten Island Ferry and pressed Adrian Toomes for Spider-Man’s identity.
Peter’s Black Eyes
Spider-Man’s eyes turn black inside his mask during the Scorpion fight. The mutation makes him more aggressive and spider-like as he loses control of his powers.
Organic Webbing
Peter develops biological web-shooters, mirroring Tobey Maguire’s version from the Sam Raimi trilogy. James Cameron first introduced this concept in his 1990s Spider-Man script.
Empire State University
Peter wears an ESU hoodie when visiting Bruce Banner at the university. The Human Torch, Reed Richards, and Dr. Doom all attended ESU in the comics.
Banner’s Hulk Inhibitor
Bruce Banner wears a Hulk Inhibitor Device with a green meter measuring his gamma levels. The device mirrors the heart rate monitor Edward Norton wore in The Incredible Hulk.
Metzger and Damage Control
Tramell Tillman plays Metzger, the Director of the Department of Damage Control. The comics version was an anti-mutant activist eventually killed by Magneto.
John Jameson’s Wedding
A helicopter at the frozen wedding reads “Just married Jon and Lucy.” John Jameson previously appeared as an astronaut in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2.
Carlos Rodriguez Reference
Ned’s investigation board mentions Carlos Rodriguez, a parkour content creator turned suspect. In the X-Men comics, Rodriguez belongs to a criminal gang called the Y-Men.
Aunt May’s Gravestone
May Parker’s gravestone confirms No Way Home took place in 2024. The filmmakers used Marisa Tomei’s real birth year of 1964 for the character.
The Hand’s Return
Spider-Man battles The Hand, the ancient ninja order Frank Miller created for the Daredevil comics. Hawkeye’s Ronin killing spree during the Blip may have created the power vacuum they filled.
Grey Hulk Debut
The Hulk appears more grey than green when unleashed in the trailer. Grey Hulk first returned in Incredible Hulk issue 324 during the Peter David and Todd McFarlane run.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters on July 31, and tickets are on sale now.
