The highly anticipated prologue and trailer for The Odyssey reportedly have release dates set for theaters.

When is the reported release date for The Odyssey prologue?

According to World of Reel, a nearly six-minute prologue of The Odyssey will air before IMAX screenings of Sinners and One Battle After Another on December 12. The following week, The Odyssey’s trailer is expected to run before Avatar: Fire and Ash screenings starting December 19.

A recent cover story in Empire Magazine revealed some of the details for the upcoming footage. It features Odysseus and the famous Trojan horse, which is being “dragged via ropes and straining sinews up a beach towards the city.” After teasing the battle scenes, the video ends with a shot of Cyclops.

Matt Damon stars as Odysseus, the famous Greek king of Ithaca and war hero. The Odyssey depicts Odysseus’s treacherous journey home to reunite with his wife after the Trojan War. During his travels, Odysseus will encounter several mythical beings, including Cyclops and the Sirens.

The Odyssey is written and directed by Christopher Nolan, based on Homer’s Greek epic of the same name. The Odyssey is Nolan’s first movie since 2023’s Oppenheimer, which won seven Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director.

“The Odyssey is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology,” Universal’s logline reads.

Like many of Nolan’s films, The Odyssey boasts a star-studded ensemble. The cast includes Tom Holland as Telemachus, Odysseus’s son; Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Odysseus’s wife; Zendaya as Athena, a goddess tasked with protecting Odysseus; Robert Pattinson as Antinous, a suitor vying for Penelope; Charlize Theron as Circe, a witch and goddess; and Jon Bernthal as Menelaus, the king of Sparta.

Other cast members include John Leguizamo, Himesh Patel, Lupita Nyong’o, Mia Goth, Will Yun Lee, Benny Safdie, Elliot Page, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, Jesse Garcia, Corey Hawkins, Josh Stewart, Jimmy Gonzales, Maurice Compte, Logan Marshall-Green, and more.

The Odyssey will open in theaters on July 17, 2026.
