X-Men: Days of Future Past writer Simon Kinberg‘s highly anticipated Star Wars movie trilogy has finally received a new update, teasing the potential involvement of Daisy Ridley‘s Rey Skywalker. This comes more than a year after Kinberg’s trilogy project was first announced. At the moment, the studio hasn’t revealed its target release date for the trilogy’s first installment.
What’s the new update for the next Star Wars movie trilogy?
According to insider Daniel Richtman, Kinberg’s Star Wars movie trilogy will reportedly bring back Ridley’s Rey Skywalker for a major role. However, Richtman noted that the trilogy might center around new lead characters. It’s unclear how Rey’s potential role in the new trilogy would connect to the iconic Jedi’s upcoming solo movie from filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight.
In a previous interview, Kinberg opened up about his upcoming Star Wars project, revealing that he wants to deliver a story that has the right balance between “epic” and “intimate.”
“My favorite of the Star Wars movies is Empire Strikes Back, and it’s because the balance between the epic and the intimate is so strong in that they’re such personal stories,” Kinberg said. “The stakes are really personal, and yet, obviously, there’s all kinds of great science fiction. I think Andor did an extraordinary job of that, as well. It was such an emotional, intense, personal show that also had, obviously, massive stakes to it, and politics, and all of that.”
The untitled Rey Skywalker project is expected to take place 15 years after the events of the 2019 movie. The story will feature Rey trying to rebuild a new Jedi Order. Currently, further details about its characters and release date are being kept under wraps.
