The first official trailer of Melania, the upcoming theatrical documentary about First Lady Melania Trump, dropped recently. Offering a candid, character-driven glimpse into her experience, the trailer also exposes a pivotal moment in U.S. political history: the second presidential victory of President Donald Trump.
However, almost as if she is humorously mocking herself, the final seconds of the trailer reveal that she was not present to witness Donald Trump’s second victory.
In the clip’s closing exchange, President Trump calls Melania to congratulate her on his election win, but she replies that she didn’t watch the moment on TV and will “see it on the news” instead, implying she was inside the golden bathroom during the live event.
That unexpected detachment immediately became the defining takeaway from the trailer, setting a tone of personal introspection rather than mere political spectacle.
What is Melania About?
The trailer for Melania asserts it is more than just a documentary film, but it explores the First Lady’s inner life and personal perspective during high-pressure moments that everyone else experienced in real time.
Headlined by the First Lady herself, it captures her perspective during a rare and defining moment in her life: the 20 days leading up to President Donald Trump’s second inauguration on January 20, 2025.
The film is directed by Brett Ratner and backed by Amazon MGM Studios through a reported $40 million licensing agreement, with Melania herself serving as an executive producer (via Decider). Moreover, as Deadline reports, the film will also accompany a three-part docuseries.
Instead of a traditional political documentary, producers describe the film as a behind-the-scenes look at the First Lady’s personal and professional life during the transition back into the White House. The trailer reveals the crucial importance that Melania Trump plays in the life of her husband as well, inviting the audience to witness history in the making.
In an interview with Fox News, the first lady described the story as ” historically consequential, touching upon the 20 days of her life preceding the US Presidential Inauguration as a rare and defining moment, one that warrants meticulous care, integrity, and uncompromising craftsmanship.
The documentary promises unprecedented access, including footage of Melania navigating business, philanthropy, and family responsibilities as the nation watches her husband prepare for a renewed presidency.

Melania is slated for a global theatrical premiere on January 30, 2026. The 104-minute documentary will be released in cinemas in the United States and in selected territories in North America, South America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and other territories before eventually streaming on Amazon Prime Video (via Variety).
However, its streaming release and the release details of the documentary accompanying it have not been revealed yet. Fans will have to wait for a few months before Amazon announces the release details.
Regarding the film’s theatrical release, the first lady told Fox News:
History is set in motion during the 20 days of my life prior to the U.S. Presidential Inauguration. For the first time, global audiences are invited into theaters to witness this pivotal chapter unfold—a private, unfiltered look as I navigate family, business, and philanthropy on my remarkable journey to becoming First Lady of the United States of America.
She also reiterated that it was of imperative nature to produce a film suitable exclusively for theaters, given the historically important subject matter of the film.
Earlier, as Fox News reports, Disney, Netflix, and Paramount were all engaged in a bidding war to purchase the rights to the film. However, Amazon and MGM made the biggest bid, purchasing the license for over $40 million, making it the largest documentary deal in entertainment history.
Well, Melania promises to position Melania Trump not just as the spouse of a powerful figure, but as an individual navigating a highly public moment on her own terms. What are your thoughts about the documentary?
Melania will be in theaters on January 30, 2026.
