The Multiverse Saga has seen Marvel Studios officially recognize several “black sheep” members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, such as Anson Mount’s Black Bolt from the short-lived Inhumans and the entirety of Netflix’s Defenders Saga. However, one show that Marvel continually refuses to acknowledge is Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and that doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon.
When S.H.I.E.L.D. first premiered on ABC in 2013, the “It’s All Connected” tagline reminded viewers that the show took place in the same universe as the movies. However, despite this claim, connections were more of a one-way street, with Marvel Studios never acknowledging anything the MCU shows did. This continued up until 2023, when Daredevil: Born Again underwent a major creative overhaul, leading to the Defenders Saga being recognized as MCU canon.
Is Marvel Studios finally recognizing Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.?
Unfortunately, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is not set to receive such a luxury as that before the end of the Multiverse Saga. According to scooper The Beyond Reporter on X, the ABC superhero drama series “will be completely ignored in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.”

The S.H.I.E.L.D. timeline got a bit complex near the end of the show’s run, with time travel sending the agents into the far future and then into the past. The team definitely changed enough to have the Time Variance Authority breathing down their necks, but since that organization was not officially introduced into the MCU until 2021, a year after S.H.I.E.L.D. ended, they came away scot-free.
Marvel’s continued avoidance of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will likely break more than a few hearts in the MCU fandom, with many having waited years for the studio to bring back the likes of Clark Gregg’s Phil Coulson and Chloe Bennet’s Daisy Johnson/Quake. Sadly, it looks like that day has not yet come. Insider Alex Perez did hint last June that S.H.I.E.L.D. fans will get a “small win” in the upcoming Vision Quest. Still, though it’s unclear exactly what that win might entail.
All seven seasons of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are available to stream on Disney+. Avengers: Doomsday will be released in theaters on December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
