The first look at Zatanna’s costume in Absolute Wonder Woman has been revealed.
DC Comics’ Absolute Wonder Woman began in October 2024. Written by Kelly Thompson and illustrated by Hayden Sherman, the series introduces readers to a version of Diana Prince who is more witch than warrior, as she was raised in Hell by Circe rather than on Themyscira.
Absolute Wonder Woman #12 ended with the reveal that the Absolute Universe version of Zatanna was being held captive in a government agency, run by a woman named Veronica Cale, that oversees Area 41. The reasons for her captivity are not yet clear, though Zatanna is seen bound and muzzled like Hannibal Lecter, presumably to keep her from using magic.
That issue ends with Cale saying, “It looks like you’re finally going outside after all, Zatanna. Because I’m going to send you to kill a witch,”

“The Season of the Witch arc begins here! After her exploits in the Area 41 maze, Diana has resolved to not let her personal mission overwhelm the one she was sent to the surface world to fulfill,” the solicitation for the issue reads. “But a new threat has emerged in Gateway City, and it turns out the best thing to send to kill Wonder Woman is…another witch! Zatanna is here, and Diana’s life will never be the same!”
Given that Zatanna is clearly being held against her will in Area 41, it’s unclear whether or not she’ll be a full-on villain or if she and Diana could perhaps become allies. All will become clear when Absolute Wonder Woman $16 arrives on January 28, 2026.
