Commuters baffled as sus[ected Nigerian London bus driver ‘gets off bus to buy plantain in the middle of the day’
His passengers reportedly just watched on as he did his shop
The incident happened on the 63 bus going past Peckham Library
We’ve all nipped to the shop during the workday to pick up those few bits and pieces we need. Usually it’s done during your lunch break or at another time, when you have a quiet moment and no one is depending on anything from you.
Yet it seems as if not everyone abides by those rules as spoken about on the Pour Decisions Show. One of the hosts recounts a moment when a bus driver in South London allegedly got off his bus to go and buy plantain from a local shop, whilst his bus full of passengers looked on in disbelief.
“I remember one time when I was riding the bus, I think I was coming back from New Kent Road, and I was getting back into, Rylane and Peckham, and I was on the 63. And we pull up at the bus stop outside, Peckham Library, but as if you’re coming back into Peckham, so it’s the opposite side. Anyway the bus driver, basically, he drives a little bit further than the bus stop and pulls to the side, gets off the bus and goes into the shop and he’s buying plantain.
“Everybody on the bus is watching the man buy the plantain and I’m thinking to myself, ‘Listen I love plantain as much as the next person but, hello, sir? You are on the clock. You got the whole of us on the bus watching you buy plantain.’ It’s like, I get it, bro, but I don’t get it.”
The disgruntled passenger went on: “And then he got back on the bus and drives as normal. he didn’t even say, ‘oh, sorry, guys, I just needed to get something’ he just came back on the bus and drives like normal.”
If the culprit of the shop run is caught, who’s to say what would happen as MyLondon has previously reported about a driver who managed to keep his job despite reading a newspaper while at the wheel in Central London. In a video which was seen by MyLondon, the driver of the 159 bus was reading a newspaper placed over his steering wheel while at the traffic lights on Piccadilly.
The driver in question was formally disciplined by his bus company.
