For Josh O’Connor, stepping into Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, aka Knives Out 3, wasn’t another experience where he’d have the five-star celebrity treatment. Instead, the Emmy-winning actor was tested at every turn, unlike Daniel Craig, who played the eccentric Southern detective (via Entertainment Weekly).
But The Crown star was committed to his part and said:
It was definitely uncomfortable, but it was a sacrifice I was willing to make to be part of the Rian Johnson world
O’Connor played Rev. Jud Duplenticy, an ex-boxer turned priest who had to go through multiple sequences where it rained, and they were seemingly written into existence just for his scenes!

So let’s see what else the actor has to say about being drenched all the time, followed by his experience with the cast!
Why Was Josh O’Connor Stuck in Mud and Rain While Filming?
Josh O’Connor’s soaking and frustrating ordeal wasn’t a case of weird scheduling or bad luck; instead, it was a part of the storytelling. O’Connor’s Jud was supposed to run through forests, wrestling doubt, and the production leaned heavily on rain machines to heighten the scenes (via EW):
The rain machines were absolutely extraordinary. But I felt like I was being punked every day. It was like, ‘And then get the rain machine in,’ and I’d be like, ‘I don’t think it was raining in the script.’ And they were like, ‘No, no, Josh, it’s raining.’ It always seemed to be raining on me and never on Daniel Craig, which really wound me up.
He joked about how Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc somehow stayed dry while he was being drenched. The actor seemed to be mildly infuriated by how selectively the rain seemed to fall, but the imbalance was important for the narrative itself.

Mud and rain aside, Josh O’Connor seemed to have a blast by joining the cast of Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. His first two weeks on the set were spent mostly with Daniel Craig and Mila Kunis, and the smaller setup allowed the trio to develop a natural rhythm before the rest of the cast joined them (via EW).
We had such a laugh. The three of us really created a bond and a chemistry, and then suddenly it was extraordinary — suddenly Glenn Close walks up, and then [Josh] Brolin arrives, and suddenly there’s Kerry Washington, and it just keeps getting better and better and better.
Every artist he mentioned has put up an acting masterclass, so it is great to know they had a good time among themselves. So, which performance was your favorite in Netflix’s Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery?
