They were in their 70s. The woman asked me if I was from Kenya, I said no… they said their next trip in two weeks is in Kenya with their only child, a daughter.
This woman talked non stop about this precious daughter, at interval, the husband would chip in some details that his wife forgot to add about their daughter.
Their daughter is 48, she works in Shell United States. Whenever she gets a bonus, she sends money to her parents and whenever she gets promoted, she book a trip for herself and her parents to anywhere in the word they choose to go.
This 2024, she has been promoted 3 times and they are visiting 3 African countries together.
The husband opened his phone and pass the phone to the wife to pass it to me so I can see the daughter.
Out of curiosity I asked, “does she travel with her family like her kids and husband?”
And the woman said “no, she doesn’t want to get married or have kids and I don’t care, anything that makes our pumpkin happy makes us happy… her happiness is our goal.”
I wish I could climb on top the aircraft with a loud speaker and repeat the last line to Nigerian parent until they hear my voice in their sleep.
A Nigerian woman will never count her daughters hard work or the risks she took to build a business, they will never consider anything worth mentioning of their daughters except marriage.
No life achievement is worth mentioning in a typical Nigerian home than marriage.
A girl will post her accade achievement online and a retard will comment “do and get married”
Someone gave a review on my page and an earthworm… a Nigerian young man went to comment, “but she never still marry na” as if when I decide to marry I’ll choose him or someone from his illitrate family
I sat close to this couple that talked and talked and talked about their 48 years old unmarried daughter and counted all her promotions and everything she has achieved… My God, they were so proud.
I have never seen Eva, but her parents has told me everything about her from when she was 7 how she likes to talk to herself in the mirror to practice making speeches to when she uses to stand up to bullies in her class to when she won an award for skating to how she broke her knee for skating and went to school with crushes and wrote her finals and graduated as the best student. and how got employed by big companies in Australia but she decided to work with Shell and moved to the US.
It made me miss my father.
My father was my greatest cheerleader…
My mom believed that because my father was always bragging about me that is why I am not yet a billionaire because people have put eye on me
Papilo clapped for me when no one did and told me how to walk with my head high and my middle finger higher when I’m in the midst of those who don’t like me.
Dear parents,
Be proud of your children,
Be okay with their decisions even though its not what you want.
May your children also make you proud.
May you have a smile on your face when you talk about your children and their achievements…
