Back in 2021, when the Multiverse Saga was still in its infancy in the wake of Avengers: Endgame, Henry Cavill had spoken (via THR) about his interest in essaying the role of Captain Britain in the MCU. In 2024, there were rumors all across the internet that Marvel had begun work on a Captain Britain series, which brought Cavill’s interest back into the spotlight.
However, Alex Perez, an industry insider, has dashed the hopes of fans who wanted to see Cavill essay a bigger role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. During a Q&A in June 2026 with Cosmic Circus, he was asked if Marvel was moving forward with a Captain Britain project, in either film or show format. According to the insider, he has heard no movement on any Captain Britain show or film in the coming slate that the MCU has planned.
That said, while Perez might not have heard about a Captain Britain project, it does not mean that it might not happen in the MCU. However, the fact that the MCU is looking to reset after Secret Wars might dictate that the multiverse is going to be closed. This would remove an important aspect of Captain Britain’s mythos, which might make the existence of any such project highly suspect.

A large part of Captain Britain’s mythos is linked to the Captain Britain Corps. Much like the Council of Reeds, this is a team of Captain Britain variants from across the multiverse that come together to fight threats that put the multiverse at risk. Just one of the organizations that could have tied the Multiverse Saga together, the Captain Britain Corps could have introduced some of Marvel’s biggest heavy hitters within the MCU.
Captain Britain, as a character, could still make an appearance in the MCU as a modernized version of the character in the reset timeline and could also be an integral part of Secret Wars going forward. The character would bring a whole new mythos into the MCU and build on the bedrock that Doctor Strange had set. Doctor Strange was a character who linked sorcery to the multiverse, and in Benedict Cumberbatch’s absence from the MCU, Captain Britain could have taken up the mantle of keeping some sort of multiverse threat in check.

While Captain Britain might seem like a character that might not get an MCU debut anytime soon, that doesn’t mean that Henry Cavill might not have a place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Cavill appeared in Deadpool & Wolverine as a variant of Wolverine. While the X-Men cast that appeared in the Fox films is going to appear in the MCU in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, it is likely that they are going to be recast in favor of some young actors.
Wolverine could continue to be a character Hugh Jackman plays, while Henry Cavill could be a version of Wolverine that continues to serve as a character closer to the X-Men. It would be no surprise if some characters have duplicates in the new, reset MCU, just like Old Man Logan and Wolverine exist in the mainline MCU timeline together.
Henry Cavill’s version of Wolverine could be the younger version of the character that is tied to the history of the world post-Secret Wars, while Hugh Jackman’s Logan could be a multiverse immigrant that now cannot cause an incursion, thanks to the absence of a multiverse at large.
Do you think Henry Cavill will join the MCU at all? Let us know in the comments!
Avengers: Doomsday hits theatres on December 18, 2026.
