Following previous developments in episode 15, Daemons of the Shadow Realm is back with an action-packed episode filled with suspense. Episode 16 doesn’t answer all your questions, but it does keep the plot rolling while revealing the frightening powers of the Kagemori clan leader, Gonzo Kagemori.
I had a great time watching this episode. Ivan’s intense fight with Left and Right, Asa’s quieter moments, and the shocking final scene all worked together to make this one of the strongest episodes of the season so far.
Ivan, Left, and Right Deliver Episode 16’s Best Action
The biggest reason I enjoyed Daemons Of The Shadow Realm Episode 16 was Ivan’s fight against Left and Right. It wasn’t just another fast-paced anime battle. Every move felt important because Ivan had to think before attacking instead of simply overpowering his opponents.
I liked how Left and Right fought as a team. They kept changing their attacks, forcing Ivan to stay alert every second. One moment that really stood out to me was when Right suddenly stretched her detached arm to surprise Ivan. It was creative, unexpected, and reminded me that daemon battles don’t follow normal rules.
The animation also deserves plenty of credit. In spite of frequent changes in fighting styles, the sword fight looked fluid, every blow between Ivan and Yuru’s daemon pair seemed believable, and the camera seemed to follow the action without becoming confusing. Even during the slower moments, Ivan’s calm thinking kept the tension alive.
Also, what is even more interesting about this Daemons Of The Shadow Realm episode was that it demonstrated that experience is as necessary for victory as strength is. Winning isn’t only about being stronger. It’s also about making the right decision at the right time, and this fight showed that perfectly.
Gonzo Kagemori’s Arrival Raises the Stakes Dramatically
As exciting as the battle was, the episode also successfully built upon the established presence of Gonzo Kagemori and his clan. While Gonzo made his initial, terrifying entrance much earlier in the season, his overarching influence over the current events is undeniable. His presence alone is enough to make everyone around him nervous.
I like how the anime continues to show his strength through other characters instead of simply saying he is powerful. From Dera’s earlier interactions with the tiny daemons to the underlying fear Gonzo instills in his subordinates, every detail reinforces how dangerous the Kagemori leader truly is. It’s a simple dynamic, but it works really well.

The story then slows down with Asa’s scenes at the manga studio, and I actually liked such a change. These moments reminded me that, despite her supernatural burdens, she is still merely a girl trying to live a somewhat normal life while working as an assistant for Hikaru. Of course, the peaceful mood doesn’t last for long.
Akio’s visit slowly turns an ordinary conversation into something much darker. The moment Asa notices him hiding something behind his back, I knew something wasn’t quite right. Instead of dropping a massive revelation instantly, the episode creates tension little by little, making its final twist even more surprising.
Daemons Of The Shadow Realm Episode 16 Final Verdict
I really enjoyed Episode 16 of Daemons Of The Shadow Realm because it balanced action, world-building, and suspense extremely well. Ivan’s battle delivered some of the anime’s best action so far, while Gonzo Kagemori’s reveal already feels like a major threat. At the same time, Asa’s quieter scenes gave the episode enough heart before ending on a chilling cliffhanger.

The episode doesn’t answer every question, but that’s exactly why it works. It keeps building excitement for what’s coming next without ever feeling slow. If the series continues with this balance, I think the upcoming episodes of Daemons Of The Shadow Realm’s second cour could be even better than the first one.
