Coyote vs. Acme Takes Dig at WB in First Dazzling Trailer

The first trailer for Coyote vs. Acme has arrived, and it’s such a nostalgic ride for Looney Tunes fans. But it’s not just all about cartoons, because the trailer cracks some surprisingly sharp jokes aimed at Warner Bros. Discovery, the studio that once shelved the completed movie for a tax write-off! (via The Guardian)

Throughout the footage, the fictional ACME corporation is framed as an all-powerful entity that avoids accountability and prioritizes profits, drawing parallels to the real-life controversy surrounding the movie. So we’re happy to see that Coyote vs. Acme isn’t just selling laughs, but also settling scores!

Now, let’s look at all the jabs they took and how the movie finally came into fruition!

All the Digs at Warner Bros. in Coyote vs. Acme Trailer

The very first joke lands seconds after the opening, following an explosive mishap with ACME rocket skates. The trailer cuts to the studio logo, only to zoom into the fine print below, which says the company is a “wholly owned subsidiary of the ACME corporation.”

As in, in this fictional world, ACME controls everything, just like Warner Bros. Another joke appears in the tagline, which labels the film as “The movie ACME doesn’t want you to see,” which directly echoes the real-world situation in which Warner Bros. shelved Coyote vs. Acme.

At the end, they give a rapid-fire disclaimer stating that ACME is only releasing the film “for accounting purposes only,” and does not endorse its storyline. Again, a tongue-in-cheek reference to the tax write-off strategy that led to the film’s cancellation.

Coyote vs. Acme Reaches Theaters Despite WB’s Drama

Dave Green’s Coyote vs. Acme was in development since 2018, and production eventually wrapped up in 2022. It was supposed to come out in 2023, but Warner Bros. Discovery abruptly announced they would not release the completed movie, and instead, shelve it to claim a tax write-off of $30 million.

The decision sparked immediate outrage; there were campaigns, petitions, protests, and whatnot. So the company allowed the filmmakers to shop the movie to other distributors, but negotiations went on for months, and the project stayed stuck in limbo.

But then Ketchup Entertainment stepped in like a hero, acquired the rights to Coyote vs. Acme, and now it’s about to hit theaters. So, what do you think? Does Warner Bros. deserve all the mockery? And do you look forward to watching Coyote vs. Acme?

Coyote vs. Acme is set to release in theaters on August 28, 2026 (USA).
