Zack Snyder recently shared his favorite photo of Ben Affleck‘s Batman, and in the process revealed a new detail about the making of the Snyder Cut.
Zack Snyder’s Photo Shows Batman in His Knightmare Suit
Since Snyder joined Instagram last month, the filmmaker has been sharing several behind-the-scenes images from his motion pictures, from Sucker Punch and Man of Steel to his upcoming movie The Last Photograph, which is currently in production. Earlier today, Snyder shared a photo of Affleck’s Batman wearing his Knightmare outfit on the social media platform, which was accompanied by the following caption: “One of my favorite Batman photos. I took it with my Leica Monochrom. We built that little set especially for these portraits.”

The “portraits” Snyder is referring to in the caption are the teaser images that the filmmaker used to promote his director’s cut of Justice League, which was released on HBO Max in 2021. Despite featuring Batman’s Knightmare outfit, the suit does not actually appear in Zack Snyder’s Justice League until the very end of the movie, in which Affleck’s Bruce Wayne experiences an apocalyptic dream of the future.
Snyder directed three movies for Warner Bros.’ DC Extended Universe — Man of Steel (2013), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), and Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021) — which are collectively known as Zack Snyder’s Justice League Trilogy. While there are still fans who are vocally campaigning online for DC to allow Snyder to finish his five-film narrative arc for the DCEU, both DC Studios and the filmmaker have moved on to other projects.
DC Studios rebooted the DCEU into the DC Universe, a new shared universe that features a different Man of Steel, played by David Corenswet instead of Henry Cavill, and a more colorful visual palette. As for Snyder, he moved to Netflix to direct his zombie heist movie, Army of the Dead, and his Star Wars-inspired sci-fi duology, Rebel Moon. His next feature will be the aforementioned war drama, The Last Photograph, which will be smaller in scale than his previous movies.
