James Gunn has responded to a comment asking him to put Robert Pattinson’s Batman in the DCU.

Pattinson played Bruce Wayne in 2022’s The Batman, which was directed by Matt Reeves. He’ll soon be reprising the role in the forthcoming sequel that is currently scheduled to be released on October 1, 2027, from Warner Bros. Pictures.

Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU, meanwhile, officially launched in December 2024 with Creature Commandos. It continues next month with Gunn’s Superman movie, before Peacemaker Season 2 then arrives in August.

The DCU and The Batman take place in separate universes; however, some DC fans have been hoping that Gunn will make The Batman canon to the DCU so that Pattinson can continue playing the character in that world.

On Threads, Gunn responded to a comment claiming that “all” DC fans want Pattinson’s Batman to join the DCU. Gunn said, “All would seem to be pushing it.”

Gunn has said before that he doesn’t plan on making Pattinson’s Dark Knight the DCU’s Batman. Who does end up playing the Caped Crusader is unclear at this time, as there’s been no formal announcement regarding when Batman will make his DCU debut (he briefly appears in Creature Commandos, which is animated, but doesn’t have any lines).

Having said that, it likely won’t be too long before there’s some sort of announcement. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav recently said that the four main characters of the DCU will be Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Supergirl. It’s not yet known who will play Diana Prince, though it was recently announced that a Wonder Woman movie is in development; Milly Alcock, meanwhile, has been cast as Supergirl.

It was previously announced that a Brave and the Bold DCU movie is in the works from The Flash director Andy Muschietti, though there hasn’t been a substantial update on that project in some time.
