A brand new Supergirl trailer is out and highlights the upcoming DCU movie. Following the newest look at the movie, we’ve got three reasons to be really excited about Supergirl.

3 exciting takeaways from the new Supergirl trailer

The relationship between Supergirl & Superman

The newest trailer for the film has even more of David Corenswet’s Superman than previously imagined. In the latest trailer, Superman can be seen in a number of clips, including the opening of the trailer when he shows up to what looks like Kara Zor-El’s first day on Earth. The trailer also highlights Superman appearing in a number of other spots, hinting that we might see more of him in the movie than we thought, which would be great to explore.

The differences between Superman and Supergirl are vast, but in the DCU, they’re even more apparent. The DCU version of Supergirl is based on a recent run of DC Comics, which features Kara as more of a nonchalant, uncaring hero who isn’t as optimistic about the world as Superman. This shows up in the movie as well, and it’ll be interesting to see how she and Superman interact as a result.

We’ve already seen them together briefly in the first Superman movie, but hopefully, we get to see them interacting on a deeper scale, and explore more of what makes the two so different.

Jason Momoa’s Lobo

Possibly the most exciting thing about the Supergirl trailer was seeing even more of Jason Momoa’s Lobo. After starring as Aquaman in the DCEU, Momoa stuck around and swapped roles in the DCU, playing the much more fitting Lobo. It’s unknown just how much of him we’ll see in Supergirl, but judging by all the looks we’ve seen of him in past trailers, it seems like it’ll be a lot.

Of course, while Lobo isn’t the focus of the movie, Momoa’s energy and presence on the screen will be hard to not be excited for. He didn’t fit the role of Aquaman too much, despite his films receiving mixed reviews. Lobo, though, seems to fit Momoa’s personality much more, and it shows on screen. Every shot we see of Lobo is him being excited, yelling, or happy to be in the fight.

A different tone for the DCU

From the beginning, Supergirl’s tone seemed to be one of the biggest differences between it and any other DCU project. The movie explores the major differences between Kara Zor-El and her Kryptonian family. Specifically, her indifference to the fact that she is able to help so many people, and her general nihilistic approach to humanity across the wider galaxy.

While not something that’s never been explored, we’ve yet to see it in a DCU movie, and it will be exciting to see how it’s accomplished. The movie looks to be much darker in story than something like Superman, and while the end might see Kara becoming more open to the fact of helping humanity and accepting her nature, it will still be interesting to see how she gets there.
