20th Century Studios has unveiled a brand new video from Avatar: Fire and Ash, the highly anticipated next entry to James Cameron‘s blockbuster sci-fi action franchise. The movie is slated to premiere in the theaters on December 19, 2025.

“In the wake of the devastating war against the RDA and the loss of their eldest son, Jake Sully and Neytiri face a new threat on Pandora: the Ash People, a violent and power-hungry Na’vi tribe led by the ruthless Varang,” reads the synopsis (via Letterboxd). “Jake’s family must fight for their survival and the future of Pandora in a conflict that pushes them to their emotional and physical limits.”

What happens in the new Avatar 3 clip?

The video shows Stephen Lang’s Quaritch as he tries to convince Oona Chaplin’s Varang to partner with him. He promises her the support and weapons she’ll need for her fight against Eywa and her followers. It also teases the type of relationship that the two antagonists will have, with Varang realizing that she has possibly found her equal.

Avatar: Fire and Ash is once again directed and produced by Cameron, who co-wrote the screenplay with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. The ensemble cast includes returning stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Jack Champion, Bailey Bass, Edie Falco, and more. Just like the 2022 movie, the third installment will also be over three hours long. The creative team consists of cinematographer Russell Carpenter, set decorator Vanessa Cole, costume designer Deborah L. Scott, production designer Dylan Cole, and composer Simon Franglen.

In a previous interview, Cameron stated that the upcoming sequel will explore “different cultures from those I have already shown. The fire will be represented by the ‘Ash People.’ I want to show the Na’vi from another angle because, so far, I have only shown their good sides.”
