The Alien: Romulus sequel has reportedly tapped Michael Sarnoski as its director. The 2024 movie Alien: Romulus was directed by Fede Álvarez, who announced in September 2025 that he wouldn’t be returning to direct the sequel. However, he stated that he would remain the producer of the movie alongside Ridley Scott.

Michael Sarnoski eyed to direct Alien: Romulus sequel

According to a recent report, The Death of Robin Hood director is being eyed to take over as the director of the Alien: Romulus sequel. He is also known for his work on projects like A Quiet Place: Day One and Pig.

Nexus Point News states that some sources have confirmed that Michael Sarnoski is the potential candidate to take over the job after Fede Álvarez. Yet, neither the filmmaker nor the studio has officially commented on the same.

While speaking to TooFab in September 2025, Álvarez conveyed, “We just finished the script, actually, for a sequel for ‘Romulus.’ But I’m going to pass the torch on this one as director. I’m going to produce it with Ridley Scott. We’re going to produce it together, and we’re right now trying to find a new filmmaker to come in.”

Alien: Romulus was released in theaters in August 2024 and was a box office success. Per Box Office Mojo, the movie went on to make around $350 million globally. It also made over a $100 million at the domestic box office.

Additionally, Disney’s 20th Century Fox President of Production, Steve Asbell, announced in October 2024 that the sequel was in the works. He told The Hollywood Reporter that they were “working on a sequel idea now.”

Asbell also asserted that the movie will feature aliens and “there’s going to be great horror set pieces.” He further added that he was a fan of the leads of Alien: Romulus and wants “to see what their story is.”

Meanwhile, all the details regarding the Alien: Romulus sequel’s plotline and cast are kept under wraps presently.
