The Absolute Universe has been revamping many classic characters for the dark new take on DC Comics. This just occurred with one of DC‘s most dangerous villains in Absolute Superman. However, this revamp is notable for turning a once-human character into a creature akin to Pennywise from It.
Written by Jason Aaron, with art by Juan Ferreyra, Absolute Superman #17 throws the Man of Steel into a two-way fight. One side is an strange creature, who is attaching itself to the citizens of Metropolis. On the other is the Absolute Universe Hawkman, who is determined to kill both the creature and Kal-El of Krypton if he tries to stop him.

Many DC Comics readers will recognize the purple people eater as the classic Superman villain Parasite. This is a logical guess due to the purple skin and complaints of being hungry. However, there are two major changes that make this Parasite seem more like a horror movie monster than the energy-eating supervillain.
How Superman’s Parasite changes in Absolute Universe
As Absolute Superman fights this Parasite, he learns one important thing about it. Namely, it can only attach itself to creatures that are afraid. Lois Lane helps him confirm this, after he accidentally frees her from the Parasite’s grip. However, this was not because of his superior strength. Rather, his presence gave her hope and that apparently made her energy distasteful.

Once Superman is able to free all the people of Metropolis, he discovers another difference from the classic Parasite. The Absolute Universe Parasite is an alien creature, brought to Earth by Brainiac. The original Parasite was originally a human who was transformed into an energy-leech. Ever compassionate, Kal-El elects to care for the creature, until he can figure out a way to return it home.
