David Corenswet’s first film after Superman is getting perfect results in test screenings. The film, titled Mr. Irrelevant, tells the story of NFL legend John Tuggle.

What is the reaction to David Corenswet’s first movie after Superman?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is getting incredible results from test screenings, especially from women. The report notes that “screenings saw a score of 95 among men over 35, with an incredibly rare perfect 100 score among women over 35,” with an overall score of 92.

Mr. Irrelevant faces stiff competition from franchise heavyweights like Avengers and Dune when it releases this Christmas. The film’s subject matter, John Tuggle, was the last selection of the 1983 NFL draft, earning him the eponymous nickname. Tuggle went on to win the New York Giants Special Teams Player of the Year. In the film, Isabel May of Scream 7 fame will play Tuggle’s love interest.

The report is especially relevant because Superman was Corenswet’s big breakout, and fans have been wondering if the actor has the chops to sustain outside the DCU. Before Superman, Corenswet rose to fame by featuring in Pearl, Twisters, the TV show Hollywood, and The Politician. THR reports that Mr. Irrelevant was shot in Australia on a budget of around $30 million, and it will be the first theatrical feature under the Skydance Sports-NFL partnership.

Mr. Irrelevant is directed by Jonathan Levine from a screenplay written by Nick Santora. Levine is best known for helming comedies like Long Shot, Snatched, and The Night Before. Santora created Prime Video’s Reacher and Netflix’s FUBAR. The film is produced by Skydance Sports, Levine, Santora, and Gillian Bohrer.

Mr. Irrelevant will be released in theaters on December 25, 2026. Corenswet is currently shooting Man of Tomorrow, a sequel to Superman, due out in July 2027.
