What did M. Night Shyamalan say about his new movie?
M. Night Shyamalan’s new movie, in collaboration with author Nicholas Sparks, is titled Remain. It’s a romantic thriller that follows an architect recovering from depression who, after moving to Cape Cod, encounters a mysterious woman.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the famed director revealed that Remain could be the most ambitious film of his career. He and Sparks initially started working on the movie through conversations and simple questions. “We traded ideas and slowly wove two very different perspectives into a single, thrilling, supernatural love story. In the end, we get to tell it our own way. Mine through film, Nicholas through his novel.”
Shyamalan added, “Just between us, it’s my highest-testing movie of my career. We’re now in post-production, finding every detail. Honestly, my hope is that when you experience Remain, you feel both sides of it at once — full of love and that quiet, lingering unease that doesn’t let you go.”
Speaking of his filmography, the director has made 16 movies while also writing and producing many others. His movies have mostly featured supernatural elements and mind-boggling twists, which makes it intriguing for fans if Remain becomes another such title.
As for his recent work, Shyamalan’s last movie was Trap, which was released theatrically in 2024. The film generated $83 million worldwide, making it a commercial success for the director. However, critical and audience responses were divided, as 56% Tomatometer and 64% Popcornmeter scores on Rotten Tomatoes reflect that.
Trap made its streaming debut on Netflix in March 2025 and reached the platform’s global Top 10 in January this year, according to FlixPatrol.
