Hardcore Percy Jackson fans will soon witness something new, as Rick Riordan expands his iconic franchise with an upcoming spin-off series. The author will reveal new adventures from a time when the main protagonist wasn’t around, and the upcoming spin-off has also received a release date window.
Rick Riordan announces Camp Half-Blood novels series, reveals when first book will publish
This fall, Rick Riordan will launch a spin-off series called Camp Half-Blood, which is based on the demigod training facility of the same name, according to the author’s website.
This new Percy Jackson spin-off series is set between Riordan’s first two books, The Lightning Thief and The Sea of Monsters. Since the first book was published in 2005, the series has sold more than 150 million copies globally, according to Associated Press. Beyond Jackson, the franchise also features other fan-favorite characters, such as Grover Underwood and Annabeth Chase, who are his best friends and allies.
The first book in Riordan’s Camp Half-Blood series is The Wild Zone, and it releases on September 29, 2026. The book is co-written with Annabelle Oh. Meanwhile, Kyle Lukoff, Jade Adia, and Pablo Cartaya are working with Riordan on the second, third, and fourth books in the spin-off series. Each book will be released with a gap of six months between them.
Speaking more about The Wild Zone, the story will focus on ancient threats and hidden secrets. As campers start disappearing mysteriously, new heroes must rise to face monsters, curses, and some tough choices.
Explaining how he initially came up with the idea of Camp Half-Blood, Riordan revealed that it struck him while he was working on the Percy Jackson TV series. “It made me wonder what was happening back at camp between the books of the original series, when Percy, Annabeth, and Grover weren’t around,” he said. “This new series gives me a chance to explore that idea, while opening up Percy’s world by introducing a new group of demigod heroes, co-created with amazing authors who can write authentically about those heroes’ backgrounds. It’s been an incredible thrill!”
As for the show, a third season is expected to arrive later this year on Disney+ and Hulu.
