Marvel’s The Punisher: One Last Kill was released to rave reviews, but one particular shot sparked ire among fans for allegedly having unfinished VFX. Now, a new update has revealed that the viral shot was, in fact, mostly practical.

A source close to the production told The Hollywood Reporter that the shot, which shows Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle falling from a rooftop onto a crate, was indeed a real in-camera shot. According to the report, Bernthal performed the beginning of the fall, with his stuntman taking over for the impact shot. That’s not to say that the shot is entirely practical, as visual effects were used to swap the stuntman’s face with Bernthal’s.
Following the special presentation’s release, many fans took to social media to dissect the shot, with some positing that it may only have used VFX for face replacement. That wasn’t the only problem with the special, as many viewers reported having issues with the sound mix. Now, the official Disney+ support account has confirmed that the problem is being looked into.
“The good news is that our team knows about this particular issue and is working on a solution as we speak,” reads a response from the Disney+ help account.

VFX or not, One Last Kill sets up Castle’s return as the Punisher proper in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The special also leaves some open ends, particularly after setting up a well-known villain from the Punisher comic books. It also includes many easter eggs and references to Castle’s history and other viral memes featuring Bernthal. The special has also made a major change to Frank Castle for how he is presented in the MCU’s future.
