So far, 2026 has carried forward last year’s strong momentum at the theatrical box office. However, for viewers looking to enjoy great recent releases from the comfort of their homes, April is particularly stacked on that front. The month will not only bring some of the best movies from last year to streamers, but also feature a slate of exclusive streaming premieres.

From Charlize Theron marking her return to the realm of action with Apex to Park Chan-wook‘s masterpiece Nother Other Choice, one of the best of last year, finally arriving on streaming, home viewers are going to be spoiled for choices.

Once again, this list spans across all major streaming platforms, so depending on what you’re subscribed to, here’s an overview of the 10 best movies to watch this April.

1. No Other Choice (April 24 on Hulu)

Arguably one of last year’s biggest Oscar snubs, Park Chan-wook’s No Other Choice stands as one of the most incisive and relevant movies in recent memory.

Centered around Yoo Man-su, who resorts to desperate measures to ensure financial security after being abruptly laid off, the movie is an impeccable commentary on how late-stage capitalism reduces a person’s self-worth to their job designations. It’s also extremely funny and meticulously shot, and home viewers will finally be able to tune back in once it arrives on Hulu later this month.

2. Marty Supreme (April 24 on HBO Max)

After registering the biggest box office numbers for any A24 movie and cementing Timothée Chalamet‘s status as this generation’s movie star, Marty Supreme is finally coming to streaming.

The third entry in Josh Safdie’s anxiety trilogy and his first solo directorial venture in years, the movie follows Marty Mauser’s unrelenting pursuit of greatness at the cost of everything. It subverts expectations on every turn and is bound to keep the viewers on their toes throughout its entirety. While it can be off-putting for some, this doesn’t take away from its brilliance, featuring the best performance of last year.

3. Bugonia (April 26 on Netflix)

Based on the South Korean cult classic Save the Green Planet, Bugonia is the quintessential Yorgos Lanthimos experience that blends absurdist concepts with his knack for dark satire.

His frequent collaborator Emma Watson returns to deliver another impeccable performance. However, the real highlight of the movie is Jesse Plemons, who delivers a career-best turn as a conspiracy-obsessed man shaped by trauma, convinced that Watson’s CEO is an Andromedan, which drives him to orchestrate a kidnapping in an attempt to force a confession.

4. Sirāt (April 6 on Hulu)

While one of the most divisive Oscar nominees of last year, there is no denying how impeccably made Sirāt is, which, much like Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme, will not be everyone’s cup of tea.

Although it initially begins as a grounded tale of a father and son searching for the missing daughter, last seen at a dance festival in the deserts of Morocco, the movie gradually drifts into more surreal, chaotic, and brutal territory. That shift can be unnerving and exhilarating in equal measure, depending on the viewer, but it remains a striking experience nonetheless.

5. Apex (April 24 on Netflix)

Charlize Theron, who has been impeccable in action movies over the years, returns to her roots with the Netflix original Apex, set to arrive exclusively on the platform later this month.

Directed by Baltasar Kormákur, the survival thriller follows a grieving woman who retreats to the Australian wilderness in search of solace, only to find herself caught in a deadly cat-and-mouse game with Taron Egerton’s serial killer. Although the premise doesn’t promise anything subversive in the genre, it has the potential to be extremely fun, particularly with Theron at the forefront.

6. Good Boy (April 25 on Hulu)

2025 was a great year for horrors, a genre that is often subject to uninspired releases. But among all the high-profile releases, Good Boy stood out as one of the more heartfelt and bold horrors of the year.

Exclusively told from the POV of Indy the dog, the director’s own dog, this perspective heightens the tension, and it makes for one of the most inventive movies of the year. Indy’s performance is the real highlight, and it never feels like a cheap gimmick. With no reliance on a double, the credit goes entirely to Indy, and the creators do a great job of drawing out the best performance.

7. Crime 101 (April 1 on Amazon Prime Video)

If you are in the mood for a stylish heist movie, Crime 101 has you covered. The star-studded offering from Bart Layton opened to generally positive reviews upon release.

While the strong word of mouth did not translate into box office success, that does little to diminish its quality. Featuring Chris Hemsworth as a jewel thief who forms an alliance with Halle Berry’s insurance broker, the movie unfolds as a gripping cat-and-mouse game, driven by the psychology of its central figures as they are pursued by Detective Lou, played by Mark Ruffalo.

8. Dust Bunny (April 17 on HBO Max)

The acclaimed 2025 horror Dust Bunny saw Mads Mikkelsen reuniting with writer Bryan Fuller, who previously penned the beloved Hannibal series, a cornerstone in Mikkelsen’s acclaimed career.

Starring the Another Round star in the shoes of an assassin, the story pairs him with a young girl, who believes her family was eaten by monsters. As he tries to protect her, the story blurs the line between trauma, imagination, and possible reality, unfolding as a dark psychological drama rather than a pure horror.

9. Pizza Movie (April 3 on Hulu)

Although stoner comedies are a rarity in the current IP-driven climate, Pizaa Movie, the new Hulu original, does an impeccable job of scratching the itch for classic stoner movies.

The story follows two college roommates who take a fictional drug, only to find themselves trapped in a psychedelic nightmare after attempting to retrieve a pizza from two floors down. It is chaotic, surreal, self-aware, and heavily reminiscent of Harold & Kumar movies. Having opened to largely positive reviews, if stoner comedies are your thing, this should be right up your alley.

10. Roommates (April 17 on Netflix)

The Adam Sandler-produced comedy stars his daughter, Sadie Sandler, as Devon, a socially awkward girl who reaches out to the cool and confident Celeste to be her roommate.

Their friendship, however, eventually spirals into a war of passive aggression. As for what to expect? While Netflix and Sandler don’t have the best track record when it comes to comedies, considering it’s helmed by Chandler Levack, who directed the beloved Indie gem, I Like Movies, there’s a good chance it’ll comprise a lot of heart. Levack also shared that it’ll be a super “super funny and honest investigation of the first year of college.”
