Spoiler Alert !!!Spoilers for That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 4 Episode 1 ahead!
Something many of us were waiting for, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, finally returns with Season 4, and the first episode was really narratively enriching and picturesque thanks to Studio 8-bit’s animation. As far as introductory episodes go, this was a great watch, and it feels so good to see the animation studio upholding its quality with the project.
Not that that’s out of the way, let’s dive straight into what went down with the opening episode for Season 4. Additionally, I will also deliver my final thoughts on the overall narrative and animation by the end of this article, so interested readers, read away!
Rimuru Spends an Eventful Day Inspecting the Tempest City
Based on the light novel, from the very beginning of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 4 Episode 1, titled “New Days“, Rimuru was the main focus. While Shuna was searching around the castle looking for Rimuru, our main Isekai protagonist was on his way to Tempest City’s inspection. Rimuru went around the city, visiting and being greeted by his citizens before reaching the town’s Takoyaki stall. After the meal, he visited the Magitrain Station site.
While discussing the Magitrain routes, Rimuru also revealed that they moved out Gabiru’s research team, and replaced the 95th floor with a members-only Elf bar. Meanwhile, back in town, commotion broke out as an adventurer was complaining about the difficulties of the dungeon. While the troublemaker was scared off by Benimaru, Rimuru arrived at the scene and learned about the multiple similar complaints they had received regarding the same.
But his adventures didn’t stop there. Continuing his inspection, Rimuru ends up at the school, only to be kicked out moments later by Hinata. After finally reaching the castle, Shuna finds Rimuru and reveals that she made a slime-themed pastry just for him.
A Dungeon Distress Finally Solved Thanks to Masayuki

The narrative swiftly approached a serious note as Rimuru gathered Veldora, Masayuki, Ramiris, and Gard to discuss how to improve the dungeon situation. While they were brainstorming through the remedies, Masayuki came up with the idea of providing lodging and food on the dungeon floors. Furthermore, he also suggested giving tutorials on how to defeat a dungeon level.
The ideas didn’t stop there for him, as he also suggested item drops from the dungeon monsters to keep the adventurers engaged in combat. While our Isekai protagonist was overjoyed with all the suggestions and decided to implement them, Gard made a suggestion of his own, which might be the actual reason why adventurers started flocking to Tempest to participate in the dungeon – those who passed the 50th floor would receive a hefty monthly reward of stellar coins.
To top the offer, it also added that those who would defeat the 100th floor will receive 100 stellar gold coins. But this was just a smart ploy, as it would be impossible to defeat Veldora, the 100th-floor boss. The episode then concluded with a dark turn, as we saw the Rosso family planning to invade Tempest for complete Western domination.
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 4 Episode 1 Final Verdict

Now coming to the technical part, the opening episode of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime or TenSura Season 4 was considerably a good one, at least compared to many other returning series so far, like TBATE Season 2. It was narratively rich and the perfect pivot from Season 3, carrying on the theme of diplomacy, yet treading the lines of conflict.
Coming to the animation part of the anime episode, while it wasn’t something extraordinary or immaculate, it was fresh and well-balanced. What I really like about Studio 8-bit is how they maintain a standard margin with the background art, and the consistency is well noticeable throughout every season of the anime so far.
To sum it up, it was really a good watch, and I’m sure many of you would agree with me when I claim that this season will definitely be something to look out for.
