As fans await the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man: Homecoming has witnessed a resurgence in popularity on the Warner Bros. streamer, HBO Max. Although the movie is not available to stream on HBO Max in the United States, in other territories, the movie has risen to the top spot.
This includes Venezuela, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Haiti, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Salvador, Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, and Nicaragua (via Flix Patrol).
In the United States, in addition to being available to stream on Disney+, the movie is also available to stream on Peacock and Tubi, where it’s currently streaming for free. This hold from MCU’s first Spider-Man movie highlights the excitement surrounding Brand New Day, whose trailer is yet to be unveiled by Sony.

Why Spider-Man: Homecoming is Streaming on Rival HBO Max?
While Homecoming‘s streaming numbers aren’t entirely surprising, as the character has been a major crowd-puller for decades, what may surprise viewers is its current streaming status on HBO Max.
Considering it’s a direct rival to Disney’s very own streamer, it’s easy to see why this might be a bit perplexing on the surface. However, it’s important to note that Disney, and in turn, the MCU, doesn’t hold the movie or streaming rights to solo Spider-Man features.
Given that Sony doesn’t have its own streamer, the studio, which possesses full control of the IP, tends to license these movies to other platforms. As for why not Disney+ or even Netflix, it’s important to note that Sony profits more from licensing the movies to other streamers as opposed to giving Disney complete exclusivity over them.
In Netflix’s case, while the streamer served as the home for Sony’s Spider-Man movies in the past, considering studios often sell streaming rights in cycles, it’s not hard to see why Sony has struck a new deal with HBO Max.
Tom Holland’s Brand New Day Could Be Marvel’s Biggest Hit of 2026
Coming back to Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the surge in Homecoming‘s numbers suggests the growing hype for the fourth Spider-Man installment, which will commence a new chapter for the character.

Although Marvel has been pretty tight-lipped about the movie’s plot, irrespective of what it offers, this has the makings of another homerun for the MCU, especially after sustaining a less-than-thrilling 2025. Moreover, it also bears the potential to be the biggest MCU outing of the year, even though Doomsday is slated to release later this year.
Following the lack of build-up to Doomsday, coupled with the MCU fatigue, while the billion-dollar-threshold is very likely for the Avengers outing, the critical reception will play a critical role when it comes to its legs. Brand New Day, on the other hand, comes off the momentum of the biggest post-Endgame release to date and is expected to deliver the street-level Spider-Man story that fans have long been craving.
Coupled with the intrigue surrounding Peter’s fate after No Way Home‘s ending, there’s a sizeable chance of Spider-Man outperforming the Avengers.
