Ever since the Absolute Universe was introduced, readers have wondered one thing; when will these new heroes start teaming up? It took a little over a year, but the Absolute Wonder Woman series has brought about a team-up between Diana and Absolute Batman. Thankfully, it proved to be worth the wait.
The issue opens with Wonder Woman traveling to Gotham City. This is because of a news report concerning four murders connected by the same symbol. It is a symbol Diana knows well, for it is the Mark of Hecate that empowers her own spells.

She seeks out Batman out of respect. She has knowledge of the vigilante who protects Gotham and would not intrude in his home. However, Diana also requires the talents of a detective who knows the territory well.
While not comfortable with the idea of magic, Batman’s gut tells him he can trust Wonder Woman. He quickly agrees to help the last of the Amazons with her quest. This proves fortunate as (unbeknownst to them) they are being watched by The Joker and Veronica Cale, who have joined forces against their enemies.

It’s a trope in superhero comics that two superheroes forced to work together will come to blows or argue constantly. This is doubly true in the Batman comics, where the Dark Knight often has trouble with other heroes working in his city unless he trained them. Absolute Wonder Woman #15 avoids this, however, with Kelly Thompson immediately confirming a rapport between Bruce Wayne and Diana. Mutual respect is established immediately, and the two quickly learn how to play off of one another’s talents. This is so rare as to be notable.
Another rare thing is the amazing artwork of Absolute Wonder Woman. Hayden Sherman continues to astound with every issue, though his take on Batman does not appear as unusually large as Diana’s dialogue suggests. Apart from that oddity, however, every page looks fantastic. The color art by Jordie Bellaire and letters by Becca Carey also continue to deliver.
Absolute Wonder Woman #15 does everything a team-up issue should. It introduces new readers to both heroes and further builds upon their shared universe. If you’re a Batman or Wonder Woman fan who has yet to give the Absolute Universe or their respective incarnations a try, this would be a good place to start.
