The upcoming God of War television show has received an exciting update.
Prime Video is developing a TV show based on the popular God of War video game. The Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios series comes from Ronald D. Moore, who serves as the series’ showrunner, writer, and executive producer.
What is the God of War update?
Per Deadline, God of War has received a two-season order, meaning fans of the video game can expect God of War Season 2 to be happening at some point in time. Pre-production for God of War Season 1 is currently underway in Vancouver, and the casting process has begun, though there have been no public announcements regarding who will star in the show as of yet.
It has now been announced, however, that director Frederick E.O. Toye will helm the first two episodes of the Prime Video series. Having won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for his work on FX’s Shōgun, Toye has also directed episodes of The Boys, American Gods, Chuck, Fallout, Fringe, The Good Wife, Lost, Person of Interest, Snowpiercer, The Terminal List, The Walking Dead, Westworld, and more.
“Based on PlayStation‘s hugely popular ancient mythology-themed video game, God of War follows father and son Kratos and Atreus — the roles that are now casting — as they embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye,” Deadline’s article notes. “Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human.”
Made in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions, God of War also comes from executive producers Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, Hermen Hulst, and Roy Lee. Brad Van Arragon. Joe Menosky, Marc Bernardin, Tania Lotia, Ben McGinnis, and Jeff Ketcham serve as co-executive producers.
