Bet everyone remembers Cyberpunk 2077 for all the iconic delays; however, Rockstar is stealing the show by delaying GTA 6 yet again. This time around, Rockstar believes they can finally release the game for good on November 19, 2026 (not for PC by the way).
The game’s development started back in 2018, with preliminary work beginning in 2014, and it’s been a long time since then. If you’re hoping that Rockstar will be able to break the record for longest development period, then they’re still quite far from it. Because Duke Nukem Forever still holds that spot.
Current record for the longest development period for a videogame? 14 years and 43 days. Officially announced on 28 April 1997 by developer 3D Realms, the FPS ‘Duke Nukem Forever’ was finally released on 10 June 2011. https://t.co/8XBZGM3i98— Guinness World Records (@GWR) November 6, 2025
Duke Nukem Forever actually took forever to develop, because the development started back on April 28, 1997, and got its eventual release in June 2011. Yes, 14 years and 43 days, looks like Rockstar is quite far from that.
But again, following the recent delay announcement, Guinness World Records didn’t miss the opportunity to mock Rockstar and join the trend. If Rockstar does want to break this record, then they’ll have to plan a 2033 release (please don’t).

Rockstar confidently confirmed GTA 6 is real back in February 2022, and we got to know that it would be released in 2025. Not only that, we even got a confirmation that it would be happening during the Fall season. Now, as we transition into Winter 2025, it’s still nowhere to be seen.
Thanks to another delay somewhere in the 2025 timeline, Rockstar assured that we’d surely get to try GTA 6 during May 2026 (again, a lie). Yet, here we are in the cold month of November, to finally get some news that Rockstar will release it a year later in 2026.
Here’s a thought: Rockstar should just pick a real date instead of keeping fans on the edge year after year. Well, don’t know if Rockstar has finally made up their mind, so let’s talk about it next year.
GTA 6 Could Still Break Sales Records Once It Arrives

On the brighter side, the hype behind GTA 6 is too big, and many people are too excited to try it out. If there’s a shot of breaking a record, then it would be the best-selling.
But that would be tough competition because Minecraft holds the crown with 350 million copies. Now, it comes down to the pricing and who’s willing to buy the title.
Will GTA 6 be able to break records when it releases in 2026? Or do you think more delays will happen down the line? Share with us in the comments below.
