KPop Demon Hunters is returning for a sequel. Deadline confirmed that the follow-up to the animated juggernaut, which became the most-watched movie on Netflix, is moving forward at Sony and Netflix, which is hardly surprising. Director Maggie Kang, in an earlier interview, teased that a potential backstory for Huntr/X could be the focal point of the sequel.
The movie is currently slated to release in 2029 on Netflix. Considering how long animated projects tend to take, coupled with Sony’s hot streak in the medium, the four-year wait is understandable. Will it be released in theaters? As of now, there have been no comments on it.

KPop Demon Hunters 2 Could Capitalize On Netflix’s Shifting Goals
For all its success, Sony undoubtedly missed out on a potential box office juggernaut with Demon Hunters, as proven by its limited release back in August, as it nabbed the top spot at the box office. Although the streamer has yet to comment on the movie’s theatrical status, there’s a good chance the sequel might experience a more traditional theatrical release window.
Despite standing against the theatrical experience for years, in recent months, Netflix has become more lenient with its big screen policies, whether it’s burying the hatchet with AMC or opting to bring the Stranger Things finale to theaters.
With Greta Gerwig’s Narnia set to receive a wide IMAX release, coupled with reports surrounding a robust release for Brad Pitt’s The Adventures of Cliff Booth, it’s evident that Netflix is starting to embrace the theater business.
And given Demon Hunters‘ impressive returns from its limited run, in four years, there’s a good chance the sequel might nab a traditional release window in all major theater chains upon release.
What are your expectations for the sequel?
