10 Things You Must Know Before Buying Marvel’s Wolverine
Spread the love

Marvel’s Wolverine is finally close to release, with Insomniac Games bringing its take on Logan exclusively to PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026. After three years of waiting since Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, there is plenty of excitement around seeing what the studio can do with one of Marvel’s most violent heroes.

There are also a few things worth knowing before you decide whether this is worth your $69.99. From the structure of the adventure to how Logan’s healing factor works, here are ten details that should give you a better idea of what you are getting.

1. There Is No Open World

If you loved roaming around New York in the Spider-Man games, Marvel’s Wolverine is going to feel quite different. Insomniac has gone for a tighter, more curated adventure built around individual missions and locations rather than one enormous map waiting for you to clear.

Logan’s journey takes him across the world, including the Canadian wilderness, Tokyo, and Madripoor. That setup lets the studio change the scenery and pace without asking you to spend hours crossing the same map between story missions.

2. Spider-Man Is Not Making a Cameo

Yes, this game exists in the same universe as Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man games. No, that does not mean Peter Parker is going to swing into a mission and start trading quips with Logan. Insomniac has already confirmed that Spider-Man will not be appearing in the game (via IGN).

There may still be connections for fans to notice, because the games share a universe, but the actual story is keeping its attention on Logan. So if a surprise Spider-Man appearance is sitting somewhere on your personal bingo card, it’s safe to cross that square off.

3. This Is Not Logan’s Origin Story

Logan already has adamantium in his bones when the game begins. He also does not remember exactly how or why it happened, but Insomniac has no plans to turn the campaign into a retelling of his transformation into Wolverine.

That lets the story start with a much more established version of the character. You are stepping into the boots of Wolverine as he already exists, with his history, relationships, abilities, and considerable collection of emotional baggage already in place.

4. The X-Men Do Not Exist Yet

This version of Marvel’s universe has reached an unusual point in mutant history. The X-Men have not been formed, while mutants are still largely living in secrecy and dealing with people who see their existence as a threat.

Logan does have Team X around him, with characters such as Sabretooth, Mystique, and Jean Grey entering the story. Whether this setup eventually leads toward the X-Men is something worth keeping an eye on, but the game itself starts well before that familiar team exists.

5. Logan Is Going Around the World

Logan’s adventure takes him through several distinct parts of the world: the Canadian wilderness, Tokyo, and Madripoor are among the places Insomniac has shown so far, and they all offer very different surroundings.

Madripoor is particularly interesting because its Hightown and Lowtown areas give the setting two very different flavors. For a character who has spent decades getting into trouble in practically every corner of the Marvel universe, the globe-trotting setup fits Logan rather well.

6. Healing Factor ≠ Immortality

Wolverine’s healing factor is tied directly into the game’s combat through a three-tier Rage system. Fighting builds up your Rage meter, and reaching higher tiers unlocks stronger options. At Tier 2, Logan can use Last Stand to survive a fatal hit by spending his Rage and triggering an auto-revival of sorts.

That safety net comes with an obvious catch: if you take a fatal hit without enough Rage to trigger Last Stand, Logan goes down like anyone else.

7. Logan Is the Only Playable Character

Jean Grey, Sabretooth, and other characters can join Logan during certain parts of the campaign in Marvel’s Wolverine. They can help set up attacks, contribute to combat sequences, and create some of the game’s more cinematic team moments.

Control stays with Logan, however. Insomniac has kept the playable focus specifically on him, so do not go into this expecting a Marvel’s Spider-Man 2-style rotation between multiple heroes.

8. Nightmare Doors Dig Into Logan’s Past

The fact that the game skips Logan’s origin does not mean his past is being ignored. Nightmare Doors are side activities designed around confronting Logan’s nightmares and uncovering pieces of his history.

They also come with time-trial elements, giving you something to chase beyond simply reaching the end of the story. Considering how much trauma has been attached to this character over the years, there is plenty of material for Insomniac to work with.

9. You Can Replay Missions

If you finish a mission and immediately think, “That was fun, I want to do that again,” you will not have to start an entirely new playthrough. Mission Replay is confirmed as a day-one feature, giving you a way to revisit completed sections of the campaign.

The game will also launch with New Game Plus and Photo Mode, alongside more than 100 accessibility options that have now become the norm for the studio’s titles. You can also adjust things such as dynamic blood, dismemberment, and adult language in English.

10. The Pre-Order Bonuses Are Early Unlocks

This is a small detail, but worth clearing up before you make your purchase. Pre-ordering Marvel’s Wolverine gives you an early unlock for the Classic Brown Suit (here’s a look at every suit confirmed so far if you’re curious) and Reflective Claws, along with one Technique Point for character upgrades and four PlayStation avatars.

The keyword here is “early unlock.” You can wear the Classic Brown Suit near the beginning of your playthrough instead of waiting until you reach whatever point in the game normally unlocks it, and the same applies to the Reflective Claws. In other words, the pre-order gets you these items sooner, not exclusively, so don’t let “#FOMO” make the buying decision for you.

Are you pre-ordering Marvel’s Wolverine, picking it up at launch, or waiting to see how Insomniac’s take on Logan turns out first? Which of these ten details matters most to you? Let us know in the comments below!
