The very concept of ninjas originated in Japan, and since anime also comes from Japan, it should come as no surprise that there are so many GOATed ninja anime. This also means that several incredibly strong ninja characters can be found across many anime series.
Although when you hear the word “ninja,” you immediately start thinking about the Naruto anime, right? But even beyond Naruto, there are plenty of anime featuring some of the medium’s strongest warriors. So, here we’ve picked 10 of the strongest ninjas from each anime, and ranked them based on their status and strength within their respective storylines. So, let’s check them all out, shall we?
10. Zenzou Hattori Is Largely Held Back by Gintama’s Tricky Power-Scaling

In Gintama, Zenzou has proven himself to be a highly capable shinobi again and again throughout the series. In fact, even among the series’ other fighters, he is extremely skilled. And once he becomes serious, no one would dare to provoke him for the time being. So, in a list of the strongest anime ninjas, Zenzou certainly deserves a spot. However, because Gintama often turns many fight scenes humorous, it is hard to seriously rank Zenzou any higher. That’s why he is sitting at the very bottom of the list.
9. Houou Maniwa’s Assassination Skills Are Quite Deadly in Katanagatari

In terms of visual style and atmospheric world-building, Katanagatari is a standout ninja anime. The power scaling is also quite interesting, as it doesn’t make the series’ protagonist the strongest in the anime. In fact, it is Houou Maniwa, one of the members of the Maniwa Corps, who is claimed to be the most dangerous. His skills truly shine in assassination missions. However, Maniwa is only ranked 9th on the list because, against ninjas from other anime with supernatural abilities, he wouldn’t stand much of a chance.
8. Jubei Kibagami Demonstrates Exceptional Physical Strength in Ninja Scroll

Jubei easily deserves a spot, in fact, as high as 8th, because he can literally put any weapon to good use. His skills are on another level. In the anime, he time and time again proves himself by defeating stronger and more dangerous opponents than himself. So, as a traditional ninja, no one would dare question Jubei’s strength. However, compared to some of the other anime ninjas listed above, his exceptional physical abilities and swordsmanship would only get him so far, putting him at a disadvantage.
7. Higan From Ninja Kamui Combines Ninja Skills With Advanced Technology

Starting from Higan, the difficulty level would progressively increase as we go higher on the list because Higan is no ordinary ninja. In the Ninja Kamui anime, it was shown how he has combined traditional ninja techniques with highly advanced cybernetic technology. And because of such upgrades, Higan can survive injuries that would kill an ordinary human. But at the end of the day, Higan’s own strength remains well within human capabilities. Therefore, he deserves 7th place in the ranking.
6. Speed-o’-Sound Sonic Showcases Terrifying Agility in One Punch Man

Sonic from One Punch Man will single-handedly overpower each of the ninjas mentioned so far. Compared to the traditional strength and agility that most ninjas possess, Sonic simply has superhuman stats. He can move faster than most opponents can perceive. And if you are caught up with the manga, you would know that Sonic constantly improves throughout the storyline. So, in later arcs, he becomes much more powerful. That is exactly why he deserves at least 6th place on the list here.
5. Tengen Uzui From Demon Slayer Is the Strongest Purely Physical Ninja

Up until this point, we haven’t brought up any ninja with exceptionally supernatural powers. However, among all the purely physical ninjas in anime, Tengen Uzui from Demon Slayer is arguably the strongest. He has highly sharp senses, which are combined with his Musical Score technique and superhuman strength. Now, that is already a deadly combo. Tengen even wields dual Nichirin blades, which significantly increase his stats. Therefore, he deserves a spot in the top 5 of the list.
4. Gennosuke Koga Has the Ability to Read Opponent’s Movements in Basilisk

Basilisk is one of the OG ninja anime, which even features one of anime’s strongest ninjas, Gennosuke Koga. But the reason he could manage to secure as high as 4th place is that he has a supernatural edge over the other ninjas mentioned so far. On top of his highly skilled swordsmanship and strength, Gennosuke can even manipulate an opponent’s movements simply by looking at them. It is all thanks to his hypnotic Dōjutsu, which forces anyone harboring lethal intent toward him to direct their fatal strikes at themselves.
3. Recca Hanabishi Possesses Multiple Devastating Powers in Flame of Recca

If one ability sounds too little, then how about giving the MC a bunch of special powers? Recca from the Flame of Recca anime is exceptionally versatile because he has access to multiple distinct powers granted by the Flame Dragons. In fact, the anime’s overall power scaling is itself a lot higher than most of the anime mentioned here. Therefore, it’s no surprise that Recca secures a spot in the top 3 of the list. The way he combines ninja skills with supernatural fire manipulation techniques is pretty broken.
2. Gabimaru Becomes an Absolute Beast in Hell’s Paradise After Obtaining Tao

Even in the beginning of Hell’s Paradise, we get to see how ridiculously strong Gabimaru is. He perfectly fits the definition of a ninja assassin. Since he belonged to the Iwagakure village, he had mastered the art of ninpo and was widely regarded as the Unkillable Ninja. But the true extent of his strength comes later in the series, when he learns and masters Tao, a special power system introduced in the anime. He is also a master at adapting mid-fight. Thus, Gabimaru easily deserves the 2nd spot.
1. Naruto Uzumaki Inarguably Remains the Strongest Anime Ninja of all Time
Finally, as all of you might have already guessed, the crown of the strongest ninja of all time sits on Naruto himself. Throughout the series, his evolution from just another shinobi to becoming the Hokage is simply outstanding. He even learns and invents dozens of different types of techniques. Especially Naruto’s Sage Mode, ability to harness Kurama’s power, and Six Paths techniques make him truly the GOAT. This leaves no room for further doubt as to who is the strongest ninja in anime history.
